BIBLE TEXTS: 1 Thess. 5:16–18; Jam. 5:16; Acts 1:14
THE OBJECTIVE:
To cultivate a prayer-driven first love that sustains personal revival and explosive, Spirit-led church growth.
INTRODUCTION
Prayer is not one of the tools for growth — it is the foundation upon which every move of God stands.
Every revival that lasted was born in prayer, sustained by prayer, and multiplied through prayer (Lk. 18:1; Acts 6:4).
* when prayer becomes cold, growth stops; when prayer catches fire, the church explodes.
* No praying church dies. No praying believer backslides. No praying leader remains small.
A. PRAYER AS INTIMACY – FIRST LOVE IS EXPRESSED THROUGH COMMUNION WITH GOD. 1 Thess. 5:16–18; Rev. 2:4–5
Prayer is not just talking to God about needs —it is fellowship with His heart.
When intimacy dies, ministry becomes mechanical.
The early church didn’t just pray for power; they prayed to stay in His presence.
* Gen. 3:8 – God walking with Adam in the cool of the day; intimacy is God’s desire.
* Psa. 27:4, 8 – “Your face, Lord, will I seek.”
* Mk. 1:35 – Jesus rose early to pray; intimacy before ministry.
* Jn. 15:4–7 – “Abide in Me, and you will bear much fruit.”
The absence of prayer is evidence of independence from God.
The true measure of love for God is not in singing or shouting —it is in seeking.
B. PERSISTENT PRAYER – EARLY CHURCH GROWTH WAS ROOTED IN UNITED PRAYER. Acts 1:14; Acts 2:1–4; Acts 4:31, Col. 4:2, Lk. 18:1–8
The early church didn’t grow through marketing—they grew through knee work.
Before Pentecost came prayer. Before miracles came supplication.
• Acts 12:5–10 – Peter was released because the church prayed “without ceasing.”
• Acts 6:4 – “We will give ourselves continually to prayer…”
• In Nigeria’s revival history, the Jos revival of the 1980s was birthed when a few believers prayed for 40 days straight. No publicity—just prayer.
A church that prays occasionally will experience occasional power.
A church that prays continually will experience continual growth.
C. STRATEGIC INTERCESSION FOR VISION 2032 – PRAY FOR MULTIPLICATION, EXPANSION, AND LEADERS. Isa. 66:7–9; Hab. 2:2–3; Ezk. 22:30
Growth without prayer is unsustainable.
Every divine vision must be travail-born and intercessionfuelled.
Vision 2032 (or any long-term ministry goal) must be driven by prophetic prayer.
• Matt. 9:37–38 – “Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send labourers.”
• Isa. 62:6–7 – “Give Him no rest until He establishes Jerusalem.”
• Col. 1:9–11 – Paul’s prayer for the church’s fruitfulness and understanding.
D. EXAMPLES – REVIVAL LEADERS WHO MULTIPLIED THROUGH PRAYER
• NEHEMIAH – prayed, wept, confessed, and fasted before rebuilding. Neh. 1:4–11
• ELIJAH – prayed until fire fell. 1 Kgs. 18:36–38
• HANNAH – prayed until Samuel was born. 1 Sam. 1:9–20
• JESUS – prayed before every major decision. Lk. 5:16; 6:12; 9:28–29
• THE APOSTLES – prayed before appointing leaders. Acts 6:6
You can plan a church event without prayer, but you cannot sustain church growth without it.
Will you be part of the praying remnant (Praying even beyond this EGD month) that sustains Vision 2032?
E. SUSTAINING INTERCESSORY ACTION STEPS
1. ESTABLISH A DAILY “VISION 2032 PRAYER HOUR.”
• Every worker, member, and family should choose a consistent one-hour slot daily or weekly to pray for revival, souls, and multiplication (Psa. 55:17).
• Corporate prayer watches can be scheduled—morning, noon, and night, Acts 3:1; Dan. 6:10
2. START A “PERSONAL PRAYER GROWTH JOURNAL.”
• Record every answered prayer, divine instruction, or church breakthrough.
• Track testimonies connected to corporate intercession.
3. FORM PRAYER CELLS OR FIRE TEAMS.
• 3–5 members per team, interceding for growth, new converts, leaders, and resources.
• Prayer cells become revival cells.
4. REIGNITE FAMILY ALTARS.
• Every home must become a mini upper room.
• When families burn, the church will explode in fire.
CONCLUSION
Before expansion in Acts 2 came intercession in Acts 1.
Prayer prepares the ground, and faith plants the seed.
We cannot just announce “Vision 2032” or promote it twice in a year and leave it at that; we must pray ceaselessly for its manifestation.
If we pray as they prayed, we will grow as they grew.
Every revival begins when someone decides to take prayer personally.
When prayer goes up, power comes down. When power comes down, growth breaks out.
