TOPIC: Fear Not

MEMORISE
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
— Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
READ: Isaiah 41:10-14 (KJV)
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
2 Samuel 19-20
MESSAGE
Fear is one of the greatest weapons that the enemy uses against the children of God. Fear paralyses. Fear hinders faith. Fear stops you from moving forward. Fear makes you see giants where there are only grasshoppers. Fear makes you hear the noise of the enemy louder than the voice of God.
But God’s command to you today is very clear: Fear not.
In our Bible reading today, God gives us several reasons why we should not fear:
1. Because He is with you. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee.” The Creator of heaven and earth, the Almighty God, the One who spoke the universe into existence, is with you. He has not left you. He has not abandoned you. He is right there with you in every situation.
2. Because He is your God. “I am thy God.” He is not a distant deity. He is not an impersonal force. He is your God. He knows you by name. He has claimed you as His own. You belong to Him.
3. Because He will strengthen you. “I will strengthen thee.” You may feel weak. You may feel tired. You may feel like you cannot go on. But God says He will give you His strength. His strength is made perfect in your weakness.
4. Because He will help you. “I will help thee.” You are not alone in your struggles. God is your helper. He will send help from above. He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
5. Because He will uphold you. “I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” His right hand is the hand of power. He will hold you up. He will keep you from falling. He will sustain you through every storm.
6. Because your enemies will be defeated. “All they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded.” The people coming against you will not succeed. Those plotting your downfall will be put to shame. Those warring against you will become as nothing.
7. Because God holds your right hand. “I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand.” This is a picture of intimacy and guidance. God is holding your hand like a father holds the hand of his child. He will lead you. He will guide you. He will not let you stumble.
8. Because God Himself is your redeemer. “Fear not, thou worm Jacob… thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.” You may feel small. You may feel like a worm — insignificant, despised, powerless. But God says He is your redeemer. He has paid the price to set you free. He has bought you back from the hand of the enemy.
Beloved, whatever you are facing today, God is saying to you: Fear not. Do not be afraid of the report of the doctor. Do not be afraid of the economy. Do not be afraid of the threats of the enemy. Do not be afraid of the future. God is with you. God is for you. God will help you. God will strengthen you. God will uphold you.
Fear is a liar. Fear magnifies problems and minimises God. But faith magnifies God and minimises problems. Choose faith over fear today.
ACTION POINT
Identify one area of your life where fear has been holding you back. Write down Isaiah 41:10 and declare it over that situation every day this week.
HYMN 1 – All Hail the Power of Jesus Name
All hail the power of Jesus name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all!Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all.Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,
To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all.O that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song,
And crown Him Lord of all.

COMMENTARY
The Spirit of Fear vs. The Spirit of Faith
Fear is not just an emotion — it is a spiritual force. The Bible tells us that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). This means that fear does not come from God. Fear comes from the enemy. Fear is a tool that satan uses to immobilise believers, to steal their joy, to kill their dreams, and to destroy their destiny.
When fear takes hold of a person, they become paralysed. They cannot move forward. They cannot take risks. They cannot obey God’s commands. The children of Israel were paralysed by fear when they heard the report of the giants in the Promised Land. They forgot that God had already given them the land. They forgot the miracles He had performed in Egypt and at the Red Sea. They only saw the giants. And because of their fear, an entire generation died in the wilderness.
Fear magnifies problems and minimises God. Faith does the opposite — it magnifies God and minimises problems.
Why God Commands Us Not to Fear
God’s command to “fear not” is not a suggestion. It is a command. And God commands us not to fear for several reasons:
1. Fear is faith in the enemy. When you fear, you are putting your faith in the power of the problem rather than the power of God. You are believing the lies of the enemy rather than the promises of God.
2. Fear dishonours God. When you fear, you are essentially saying that God is not big enough, not strong enough, not faithful enough to handle your situation. Fear is an insult to the character of God.
3. Fear hinders your destiny. The children of Israel did not enter the Promised Land because of fear. Fear will keep you from your inheritance. Fear will stop you from fulfilling your purpose.
4. Fear opens the door to the enemy. When you operate in fear, you give the enemy a foothold in your life. Fear is like an invitation for satan to come and torment you.
How to Overcome Fear
1. Fill your mind with God’s Word. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The more you fill your mind with Scripture, the more faith will grow and fear will flee.
2. Remember God’s past faithfulness. When fear arises, remind yourself of what God has already done for you. He has never failed you. He will not start now.
3. Speak to your fear. Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves, and they obeyed Him. You have authority over fear. Speak to it. Say, “Fear, you are not from God. I reject you in Jesus’ name.”
4. Act in spite of fear. Courage is not the absence of fear — it is acting in spite of fear. Do what God has called you to do, even if you are afraid. As you step out in obedience, the fear will begin to dissipate.
5. Pray. Prayer is the antidote to fear. When you pray, you are releasing your burdens to God and inviting His peace to guard your heart and mind (Philippians 4:6-7).
Final Encouragement
Whatever you are facing today, God is bigger. He is with you. He is for you. He will help you. He will strengthen you. He will uphold you.
Do not be afraid.
Fear not.
