MEMORISE

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
— Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

READ: Ezekiel 37:1-10 (KJV)

1 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,

2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest.

4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

5 Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

MESSAGE

God has many attributes. He is called the Almighty (Genesis 17:1), which means that He has all might and power and can do all things. In Jeremiah 32:27, He is called the God of all flesh to whom nothing is too difficult. Isaiah 40:28 tells us that He is the Everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

Psalm 115:3 says that our God is in the heavens and does as He pleases. In Revelation 1:8, He is called Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending. He is also called the One who was, is, and is to come. This means that in Him, the past, the present, and the future come together. He is the Almighty who reverses the irreversible.

A man once had problems with one of his kidneys and was spending 200,000 weekly on dialysis. For a kidney problem like his, the best solution doctors can proffer is a kidney transplant if they can find a suitable donor. Even with such transplants, success is not guaranteed. The man was sitting somewhere in the congregation during one of our services when the Lord said, “Receive your healing.” Instantly, he became healed. This is what only the Almighty God can do; He can reverse what men have deemed hopeless.

I don’t know of any medication that can change an SS blood genotype to AA, but I have heard many testimonies of the Almighty God doing this. He alone can reverse the irreversible. As we read in today’s Bible reading, He can make dry bones live again. He alone can turn a completely hopeless situation around for the better.

The story of the dry bones in today’s Bible reading also reveals the kind of people who will experience such miracles. The dry bones were completely helpless, but I have discovered, in my little walk with God, that He delights in helping the helpless. My God is the helper of the helpless; He is called the Ever-present Help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).

Beloved, if you are currently in a situation that seems hopeless, turn to God like David did and say, “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:2). He will step into your situation and help you. I pray that God will reverse any situation that people have considered to be completely hopeless in your life.

He will glorify Himself in such situations and give you a wonderful testimony, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT

Father, please arise for my help in everything that concerns me, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

1 Kings 6-7

Open Heavens HYMN 25: THE GREAT PHYSICIAN NOW IS NEAR

The great Physician now is near,
The sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
Oh! hear the voice of Jesus.

Chorus:
Sweetest note in seraph song,
Sweetest name on mortal tongue;
Sweetest carol ever sung,
Jesus, blessed Jesus.

Your many sins are all forgiven,
Oh! hear the voice of Jesus;
Go on your way in peace to heaven,
And wear the crown of Jesus.

All glory to the risen Lamb!
I now believe in Jesus;
I love the blessed Saviour’s name,
I love the name of Jesus.

COMMENTARY, ACTION STEPS, AND ADDITIONAL NOTES

MEMORISE: Psalm 46:1 (Commentary)

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

This verse reveals two beautiful truths about God. First, He is our refuge — a safe place to run to when danger comes. Second, He is our strength — the power we lack when we are weak. But the most comforting part is the phrase “very present.” This means He doesn’t delay or arrive late. When trouble comes, He is already there, right in the middle of it with us.

BIBLE READING: Ezekiel 37:1-10 (Commentary)

This is one of the most dramatic visions in Scripture. The prophet Ezekiel is taken to a valley filled with dry, scattered bones — very dry, indicating they had been dead a long time. God asks him a strange question: “Son of man, can these bones live?” Ezekiel wisely replies, “O Lord GOD, thou knowest.” Then God commands him to prophesy to the bones. As he speaks, there is a noise, a shaking, and the bones come together, bone to bone. Sinews and flesh cover them, but there is no breath. God commands him to prophesy again, this time to the wind, and breath enters them. They stand up as an exceeding great army. This passage teaches us that God specializes in bringing life to dead situations, breath to dry bones, and hope to hopeless cases.

The God Who Reverses the Irreversible

In today’s devotional, Pastor E.A. Adeboye lifts our eyes to the highest view of God possible. He takes us through the names and attributes of God to remind us that no situation is beyond His reach. When doctors give up, when experts shake their heads, when everyone says it’s over — that is exactly when God does His best work.

The Many Names of One God

The devotional begins by listing some of God’s glorious titles, each one revealing a different aspect of His power:

  • The Almighty (Genesis 17:1): This means He has all might. Not some might, not most might — all might. There is no power shortage with Him.

  • The God of All Flesh (Jeremiah 32:27): Nothing is too difficult for Him. Not your situation. Not your disease. Not your debt. Nothing.

  • The Everlasting God (Isaiah 40:28): He never gets tired. He never runs out of energy. He has been working since before time began, and He is still working today.

  • The God Who Does as He Pleases (Psalm 115:3): He answers to no one. No committee reviews His decisions. No board approves His actions. He does what He wants, when He wants, however He wants.

  • Alpha and Omega (Revelation 1:8): He is the Beginning and the End. This means He was there before your problem started, and He will be there after it is over. The past, present, and future all meet in Him.

Put all these together, and you get one conclusion: He is the Almighty who reverses the irreversible.

Testimonies of the Impossible

Daddy Adeboye shares a testimony that illustrates this truth. A man with a severe kidney problem was spending 200,000 weekly on dialysis. Medically, his best hope was a transplant — and even that was not guaranteed. But during a service, the Lord simply said, “Receive your healing,” and instantly, he was healed.

This is what only God can do.

The devotional also mentions something even more medically impossible: changing an SS blood genotype to AA. Sickle cell disease is genetic. It is written into a person’s DNA. Medicine has no cure for it. But Daddy Adeboye has heard many testimonies of God doing exactly this. He reverses what is written in the blood. He changes what is coded in the genes.

If He can change your DNA, He can change your situation. If He can make dry bones live, He can bring life to your dead dreams.

The Kind of People God Helps

The story of the dry bones reveals something important about who experiences these kinds of miracles. The bones were not just dead — they were very dry. They were not just hopeless — they were beyond hopeless. There was absolutely nothing those bones could do to help themselves.

And that is exactly when God moved.

Daddy Adeboye shares a discovery from his walk with God: He delights in helping the helpless. When you reach the end of your rope, you are at the beginning of His power. When you have no options left, He has just begun.

Psalm 46:1 calls Him a “very present help in trouble.” He doesn’t help from a distance. He doesn’t send assistance and wait to see if it works. He is present. He is in the trouble with you. And His presence changes everything.

What You Must Do

If you are in a hopeless situation today, here is what the devotional instructs:

  • Turn to God: Like David, direct your attention away from the problem and toward the Problem-Solver. Don’t keep looking at the dry bones — look at the One who can make them live.

  • Declare Your Help: Say with David, “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:2). Your confession matters. When you declare that your help is from God, you align your faith with His power.

  • Expect Him to Step In: He is not reluctant to help. He is eager. He is looking for helpless people to show Himself strong on their behalf. Position yourself as someone who has no other hope but Him.

The Valley of Dry Bones

The Bible reading gives us a picture of what God can do with hopelessness. Ezekiel looked out at a valley full of bones — scattered, dry, dead for a long time. Humanly speaking, there was no hope. No heartbeat. No breath. No life.

But God asked a question: “Can these bones live?”

Ezekiel gave the only right answer: “Lord, YOU know.”

He didn’t say no. He didn’t say yes. He put the responsibility back on God. And when he obeyed God’s command to prophesy, the bones began to rattle. They came together. Flesh covered them. Breath entered them. An army stood up.

That is what God wants to do in your life. He wants to take the scattered, dry, dead areas of your existence and turn them into an army. He wants to breathe into your dead dreams, dead marriage, dead finances, dead health — and make them live again.

Conclusion: Your Hopeless Situation Is His Opportunity

The more hopeless your situation appears, the more glory God gets when He fixes it. Doctors couldn’t help? That makes His healing more glorious. Bank accounts are empty? That makes His provision more obvious. Relationships are shattered? That makes His restoration more beautiful.

Turn to Him today. He is the God who reverses the irreversible. He is the Helper of the helpless. He is very present in your trouble. And He is about to do what only He can do.

Additional Prayers for the Week

1. Prayer for Dry Bones to Live

Father, I bring every dead area of my life before You today. Every dream that has died, every hope that has faded, every situation that seems beyond recovery — breathe upon them, Lord. Let them live again. In Jesus’ name.

2. Prayer for the Helpless

Father, I admit that I am helpless without You. I cannot fix my situation. I cannot change my circumstances. But You are the helper of the helpless. Arise for my help today. In Jesus’ name.

3. Prayer for Reversal of Irreversible Situations

Father, You are the God who reverses the irreversible. You changed SS to AA. You made dry bones live. Lord, reverse every irreversible situation in my life. Let what men have called impossible become possible. In Jesus’ name.

4. Prayer for Divine Presence in Trouble

Father, You are a very present help in trouble. I thank You that You are already in my situation before I even arrived. You are not late. You are not distant. You are here. Manifest Your presence in my trouble. In Jesus’ name.

5. Prayer for Testimony

Father, I refuse to remain in this valley of dry bones. I declare that I will come out with a testimony. Before this week ends, let there be a noise, a shaking, and a standing up. In Jesus’ name.

Action Steps for Today

1. Identify Your Dry Bones
Take a piece of paper and write down the areas of your life that seem hopeless — finances, health, family, career, ministry, marriage, or any other area. Be specific. Name the situation. Write it down. This is your valley of dry bones.

2. Prophesy to Your Bones
Like Ezekiel, begin to declare God’s Word over those situations. Speak out loud. Say: “O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.” Do not just think it — speak it.

3. Refuse to Give Up
Hopelessness is a lie from the enemy. Your situation is not beyond God. When the thought comes that says, “It’s over,” reject it. Replace it with the Word: “With God, nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37).

4. Find Your “Very Present Help”
Spend extra time in prayer this week, not begging God to show up, but acknowledging that He is already there with you. Thank Him that He is in the middle of your trouble. Worship Him for His presence.

5. Declare Your Help Daily
Every morning this week, say aloud: “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:2). Let this declaration become the first words out of your mouth. It will align your faith and set the tone for your day.

6. Share Your Testimony in Advance
Before you see the manifestation, begin to thank God for the reversal. Tell someone: “God is about to do something impossible in my life.” Your faith-filled declaration in advance prepares the way for the miracle.

7. Encourage Someone Else
Is there someone you know who is in a hopeless situation? Share this devotional with them. Pray with them. Remind them that the God who reverses the irreversible is still on the throne.

Declarations for the Week

(Speak these aloud every morning)

  1. I DECLARE that God is my refuge and strength. I will not fear, no matter what comes against me.

  2. I DECLARE that God is a very present help in my trouble. He is already in my situation before I even arrive.

  3. I DECLARE that every dry bone in my life is hearing the word of the Lord today. They shall live again.

  4. I DECLARE that the God who reverses the irreversible is working on my behalf. What men have called impossible is becoming possible.

  5. I DECLARE that I am not hopeless because I do not serve a helpless God. My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

  6. I DECLARE that there shall be a noise and a shaking in my valley. Dry bones are coming together. Flesh is forming. Breath is entering.

  7. I DECLARE that I will stand up as an exceeding great army. I will not remain scattered, dry, and dead. I will rise.

  8. I DECLARE that before this week is over, I will have a testimony that will glorify God and silence the enemy.

  9. I DECLARE that the Alpha and Omega — the Beginning and the End — is involved in my situation. My past, present, and future are in His hands.

  10. I DECLARE that nothing is too difficult for the God of all flesh. My situation is not an exception. It is His next miracle.

Prayer for the Week

Almighty God, You are the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. You are the God of all flesh, and nothing is too difficult for You. I bring my hopeless situation to You today. I admit that I cannot fix it. I have no power to change it. But You are the God who reverses the irreversible. Breathe on my dry bones. Let them live. Step into my trouble and be my very present help. I refuse to give up. I refuse to believe the lie that it is over. My help comes from You. Arise for my help in everything that concerns me. Let me see Your hand at work. Let me have a testimony that will bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Additional Notes

The Significance of “Very Dry” Bones

The Scripture emphasizes that the bones were “very dry.” This indicates that they had been dead for a long time. There was no moisture, no marrow, no sign of life. This is important because it shows that God’s power is not limited by the length of time a situation has been dead. Whether your problem started yesterday or twenty years ago, God can reverse it.

The Two Prophecies

Notice that Ezekiel had to prophesy twice. The first prophecy brought the bones together and covered them with flesh. But there was still no breath. The second prophecy brought the breath. This teaches us that sometimes we need to prophesy more than once. We need to persist in declaring God’s Word until we see full manifestation. Do not stop after one prayer. Keep speaking. Keep declaring. Keep believing.

The Wind of God

The breath that came into the bones is described as coming from “the four winds.” This represents the Spirit of God moving from every direction. When God’s Spirit moves, He moves from all sides. There is no angle from which the enemy can attack that God cannot send His Spirit to counter it.

The Exceeding Great Army

The bones did not just become alive — they became an “exceeding great army.” God does not do things halfway. He does not just bring you back to where you were. He takes you higher. He turns your valley of dry bones into an army. Your reversal will not be small. It will be great. It will be exceeding great.

Concluding Declaration from Pastor E. A. Adeboye

“I pray that God will reverse any situation that people have considered to be completely hopeless in your life. He will glorify Himself in such situations and give you a wonderful testimony, in Jesus’ name.”
