OPEN HEAVENS FOR 15TH MAY 2026
TOPIC: MIND YOUR FOOTPRINTS III
MEMORISE:
“And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.” — Hebrews 12:13

READ: Matthew 5:14-15 (KJV)
14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
MESSAGE:
Today, technology is advancing at an incredibly rapid rate. Technological innovations spring up every day, and people are scrambling to keep up.
While it is essential for us as Christians to be at the cutting edge of what God is doing in our various industries and fields, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us as we navigate this digital age is much more crucial.
Beloved, no matter how fascinating a technological innovation might be, you must always remember that you are first a child of God and an ambassador of God’s kingdom. Sadly, some Christians have lost their way in today’s digital age.
They have completely forgotten their identity, so they follow all kinds of trends, regardless of whether they align with God’s values or not. For instance, many Christians post and share all sorts of content on social media just to get likes, shares, and followers. Such Christians leave unrighteous digital footprints and misrepresent the Lord. They allow unbelievers to blaspheme God’s name because of their conduct and actions.
If you are a Christian, you are the light of the world, and you are a city set on a hill which cannot be hidden. This means that whatever you do will be seen by many people. Therefore, your digital footprint, including everything you post on the internet, will reach the devices of millions of people across the world.
Social media, for example, is one technological innovation that can be used to shine your light to many people around the world. With social media, you have an easy opportunity to be a global evangelist for God’s kingdom; therefore, you must maximise it and not misuse the opportunity it presents by posting ungodly content on your social media platforms.
Do not put your candle under a bushel of worldliness and carelessness. Despite the speed of technological advancement today, you have been called to represent Christ wherever you are and with everything you have.
Another advantage of maximising your digital footprint to shine the light of God’s kingdom is that digital footprints outlive people. For example, the late Bishop Benson Idahosa has been dead for many years, but we can still find many of his teachings online.
Beloved, what will your digital footprint look like when you have finished your assignment here on earth? I pray that you will always glorify God with your use of technology and in everything you do, in Jesus’ name.
KEY POINT:
Let your digital footprint reflect the light of God.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
2 Chronicles 20:1-30
HYMN 33: GUIDE ME, O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH!
Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty;
Hold me with Thy pow’rful hand;
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
Feed me till I want no more,
Feed me till I want no more.Open now the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream doth flow;
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through;
Strong Deliv’rer, strong Deliv’rer,
Be Thou still my strength and shield,
Be Thou still my strength and shield.When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of death, and hell’s Destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan’s side;
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to Thee,
I will ever give to Thee.

BRIEF COMMENTARY
Based on Open Heavens 15th May 2026 – “Mind Your Footprints III”
The Digital Age and Your Identity
Pastor Adeboye addresses a pressing issue for modern Christians: how to navigate technology without losing your identity. Technology advances rapidly, but your primary identity remains unchanged – you are first a child of God and an ambassador of His kingdom.
The danger is clear. Some Christians have forgotten who they are online. They chase likes, shares, and followers at the expense of their witness. They post ungodly content simply because it is popular. In doing so, they cause unbelievers to blaspheme God’s name.
You Are a City on a Hill
The Bible reading from Matthew 5 reminds us that believers are a city set on a hill – visible and influential. This applies directly to your online presence:
You are visible. Nothing online is truly private. Screenshots last forever.
You are accountable. God sees every post, and one day you will give an account.
You are influential. Someone is being affected by what you post.
Social Media: A Tool for Global Evangelism
The devotional does not condemn technology. Instead, it sees social media as a powerful opportunity for evangelism. With a single post, you can reach millions across the world – something that required a stadium and weeks of planning just fifty years ago.
Do not misuse this opportunity. Do not put your candle under a bushel of worldliness and carelessness. Let your light shine.
Digital Footprints Outlive People
A striking observation: digital footprints outlive people. The late Bishop Benson Idahosa died many years ago, but his teachings remain online, still blessing new generations.
Ask yourself:
What will your digital footprint say about you when you are gone?
Will your grandchildren find posts that honor God or embarrass them?
Will your online legacy draw people to Christ or push them away?
Practical Takeaways
Remember your identity – Before you post, remind yourself: I am an ambassador of heaven.
Let the Holy Spirit guide – Pray before you hit “share.”
Post what you would say in person – The screen is not a shield.
Use your platform for the gospel – Share scripture, testimonies, and encouragement.
Cleanse your digital footprint – Delete anything that does not honor God.
Conclusion
You have been given a platform – large or small. Use it for His glory. Do not let the pressure for likes and shares silence your witness. Shine while you can. When your time on earth is done, may your digital footprint continue to point people to Jesus.
Prayer Point from the Devotional:
Father, help me to glorify You with my use of technology and in everything I do, in Jesus’ name.
Action Steps:
Audit your social media history. Delete anything that does not honor God.
Post something edifying today – a scripture, testimony, or encouragement.
Before every post, ask: Would Jesus post this? Would I want my pastor to see this?
Pray before you post. Let the Holy Spirit be your editor.
