PART TWO: COMMENTARY ON 40 YEARS OF THE HOLY GHOST SERVICE

Introduction: A Historic Milestone

The year 2026 marks a monumental milestone in the history of the Redeemed Christian Church of God: 40 years of the Holy Ghost Service. What began as a small gathering under a canopy at the Redemption Camp in March 1986 has grown into the largest regular Christian gathering on the continent of Africa, with millions attending physically and millions more connecting globally through broadcasts and digital platforms.

This four-decade journey is not merely a chronological marker but a testament to the faithfulness of God and the power of the Holy Spirit working through yielded vessels.

The Significance of Forty in Scripture

The number forty carries deep biblical significance. Forty years: Israel wandered in the wilderness for forty years before entering the Promised Land. Forty days: Moses spent forty days on Mount Sinai; Elijah journeyed forty days to Horeb; Jesus fasted forty days in the wilderness. Forty is a season of testing, preparation, and transition.

For the Holy Ghost Service, forty years represents a season of proven faithfulness, a generation of impact, and a transition into greater glory.

The Origin: A Vision from God

The Holy Ghost Service began in March 1986 under the leadership of Pastor E.A. Adeboye, who had become General Overseer of RCCG in 1981. The vision was simple yet profound: create a platform where the Holy Spirit could move freely, where worship could ascend uninhibited, where the Word could be preached with power, and where miracles could become commonplace.

From the very first service, it was evident that something unique was happening. The presence of God was tangible. Lives were transformed. Testimonies began to multiply.

Four Decades of Miracles

Over forty years, the Holy Ghost Service has been marked by countless testimonies. Healing miracles: the blind have received sight, the lame have walked, the deaf have heard, cancers have disappeared, terminal diseases have been healed, HIV has been reversed. Deliverance miracles: chains of addiction have been broken, mental illnesses have been healed, generational curses have been destroyed, demonic oppression has ended. Financial miracles: businesses have been resurrected, debts have been supernaturally cleared, jobs have been provided, wealth has been transferred. Family miracles: marriages have been restored, barren wombs have opened, prodigal children have returned, families have been saved.

Four days set apart for divine encounter. Thursday through Sunday, the Redemption Camp will be filled with worshippers from every nation, tribe, and tongue. Four days of worship, teaching, prayer, and manifestation.

The Call to Gratitude and Expectation

The invitation is twofold: gratitude and expectation. Gratitude means we look back and give thanks for forty years of faithfulness. Every miracle, every testimony, every life changed is a reason to be grateful. Expectation means we look forward with faith, believing that the best is yet to come. The God who did it for forty years will do it again, and greater.

Lord, as we approach this 40th anniversary, we ask for a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit. Let this gathering be the greatest yet. Let the worship ascend like incense. Let the Word penetrate hearts like fire. Let the prayers shake the heavens. Let the miracles surpass all that has been seen before.

We pray for every minister who will stand on that altar. Anoint them afresh. Let them speak not their words but Yours. Let them release not their power but Yours.

We pray for every attendee. Let no one go home the same. Heal the sick. Deliver the bound. Restore the broken. Save the lost. Prosper the faithful.

We pray for the nation of Nigeria. Let this service bring blessing to the land. Let peace reign. Let prosperity flow. Let righteousness prevail.

We pray for the nations. Let the impact of this service reach every continent. Let the fire spread. Let the Kingdom advance.

We declare that the next 40 years will be greater than the first. We declare that we are stepping into a season of Excellence.
