FRIDAY, 29TH MARCH, 2024 (GOOD FRIDAY).
SUB-THEME: THE WAY OF THE CROSS.
TOPIC: CRUCIFIED FOR OUR SINS.
TEXT: LUKE 23:26-33.
26. As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.
27. A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him.
28. Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.
29. For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’
30. Then “‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!”’
31. For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
32. Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.
33. When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.
TOPIC: CRUCIFIED FOR OUR SINS.
MESSAGE:
To crucify is to kill someone by nailing or building to a cross and leaving him to die. It appears to be the most cruel way of punishment. Jesus was sentenced unjustly to be crucified. In this text, Simon was forced to carry the cross while Jesus followers mourned and wailed. On the cross, Jesus bore our iniquity. John earlier testified about Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). His death destroyed the barrier and dividing wall of hostility to wrought our peace and reconciliation (Ephesians 2:14-16).
Are you still living a sinful lifestyle?
There is no any other way to be saved than by what Jesus did for you on the cross. His arms are opened to receive you. Just take a leap of faith and be transformed to live a holy life.
REFLECTION: He died for you to live.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank you for dying in my place. Amen.
MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH: LUKE 14:27.
And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciples.
TODAY’S BIBLE READING PLAN: 2 SAMUEL 15-18.
