7. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
8. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
9. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
10. and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
TOPIC: CONCUPISCENCE (EVIL DESIRES).
MESSAGE:
After the fall, the thoughts and desires of man have always tilted towards evil (see Gen. 6:5). Concupiscence thwarts the expression of God in one’s life. God abhors evil therefore the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in an unholy vessel. For God to manifest Himself in the life of the believer, he must necessarily deal with concupiscence in his life. He must get rid of wrong sexual desires, greed, materialism, and set his mind on heavenly things and not yielding to the desires of the flesh. Believer, are you still under the grip of evil desires? If you do not destroy evil desires, then it will consume you. When you subdue evil desires, you will grow in holiness. A continual study of the Word of God will help you overcome (cf. Ps. 119:9).
REFLECTION:
Evil desires impede spiritual growth.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to mortify all evil desires in my life. Amen.
MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH: ISAIAH 35:8.
And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it.
