SUB-THEME: THREATS AND OBSTACLES TO HOLY LIVING.

TEXT: 1 PETER 1:14-16.

14. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

15. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;

16. for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

TOPIC: GOING BACK TO YOUR OLD WAYS.

The Christian life is a progressive one, from one degree of glory to another and from faith to faith. The gospel message welcomes mankind irrespective of their background, race and creed. It transforms the believer into newness of life. The new creation life must be evident as we imitate God by following His high moral standards. We must esteem holy living because the God who calls us is holy. The Christian must make a clean break with his past (see Eph. 4:28). You cannot go back to drinking, sexual immorality, smoking and all sorts of evil desires and expect to live holily. If you revert to your old life is like a dog going back to its vomit. Why would you do so? It is nauseating!

Make a clean break from your evil ways.

PRAYER:

Lord, grant me the grace to say no to sin, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it.
