TOPIC: HELP IS ON THE WAY!

MEMORISE

“Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, Nor take up their names into my lips.” – Psalm 16:4

READ: Exodus 20:1-5 (KJV)

1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

MESSAGE

Sometime in 1980, there was a woman in RCCG who was trusting God for the fruit of the womb. Although we all prayed for the woman as a church, my wife and I took it upon ourselves to pray for her regularly on our family altar. Shortly after, she informed us that she was pregnant. On hearing the good news, we were really happy for her. We were dancing and singing praises to God on her behalf when she told us, “Somebody advised me to look elsewhere for a solution to my childlessness.” She continued, “The people I went to for a solution also used the Bible. However, they also performed some traditional rituals and asked me to participate in certain rituals as well. Look at the result now; I am pregnant.” This happened over four decades ago, yet the last time I heard of her, she was still pregnant.

There was another woman who also desperately wanted a child. She got tired of waiting on God, so she sought fetish means to find a solution to her problem. Shortly after, she became pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy. After she had her baby, she told those who were still waiting on the Lord, “You better take action and get a solution to your problem like I did, instead of wasting your time praying.” When the woman’s son was about six years old, he went into her room one day, stripped himself naked, and said, “Let’s have sex.” The mother was shocked and asked him, “What did you say?” The boy responded, “I said I want to have sex with you.” The perplexed mother then took him to a deliverance minister. During the deliverance session, the boy said, “Don’t waste your time; I am not possessed. I am a demon incarnate.”

Beloved, do not seek any kind of help outside God. Those who seek other gods and alternatives to God will eventually end up in sorrow. Today’s memory verse says that the sorrow of those who seek after other gods shall be multiplied. Those who seek help apart from God always pay dearly for it because the devil has nothing free to give. I implore you today to continue to tarry in God’s presence. Put your complete trust in Him because His help is on the way, and He will never disappoint you (Hebrews 10:35-38). I pray that the Lord will continue to uphold you and strengthen your faith in Him, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT

Father, please help me to wait patiently on You for Your help at all times.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

2 Samuel 4 – 7

HYMN 21 – MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING LESS

  1. My hope is built on nothing less
    Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
    I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
    But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Chorus:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

  1. When darkness seems to veil His face,
    I rest on His unchanging grace;
    In every high and stormy gale,
    My anchor holds within the veil.

  2. His oath, His covenant, and blood,
    Support me in the whelming flood;
    When all around my soul gives way,
    He then is all my hope and stay.

  3. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
    Oh, may I then in Him be found;
    Dressed in His righteousness alone,
    Faultless to stand before the throne.

COMMENTARY: THE DANGER OF ALTERNATIVE HELP

Introduction: The Temptation to Look Elsewhere

In this devotion, Pastor E.A. Adeboye addresses one of the most subtle and dangerous temptations believers face: the temptation to seek help outside of God. When the waiting is prolonged, when the answer seems delayed, when desperation sets in, the enemy offers shortcuts. But these shortcuts come at a price far higher than any benefit they seem to offer.

The message opens with a sobering testimony of a woman who sought alternative help for childlessness. She became pregnant—but decades later, she was still pregnant. The pregnancy never came to term. The joy was temporary; the sorrow multiplied.

The Two Women: A Study in Contrast

Daddy G.O. presents two women who faced the same desperation but made different choices:

The First Woman – She sought help from those who mixed the Bible with traditional rituals. She received pregnancy, but it never culminated in birth. The “help” she received was a deception. She remained trapped in a pregnancy that would not deliver.

The Second Woman – She sought fetish means and gave birth to a son. But her “son” was not a blessing; he was a curse. At six years old, he revealed himself as a demon incarnate. What seemed like an answer was actually an invasion.

These testimonies are not meant to frighten but to warn. The enemy offers solutions that look like answers but are actually traps. The sorrow of those who hasten after other gods is multiplied.

The First Commandment

The reading from Exodus 20 reminds us of the foundation of all true help: “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

The first commandment is not arbitrary. It is protective. God knows that any other source of help will ultimately enslave. Any other god will eventually demand more than it gives. Any alternative to God is a path to multiplied sorrow.

The Price of Alternative Help

Those who seek help apart from God always pay dearly for it. The devil has nothing free to give. What appears to be a gift is actually a loan with devastating interest. What seems like deliverance is actually bondage in disguise.

Consider the woman who was still pregnant after four decades. Her “help” never delivered. Consider the woman whose son was a demon. Her “answer” was a curse.

The Call to Patient Trust

The message concludes with an exhortation: “Continue to tarry in God’s presence. Put your complete trust in Him because His help is on the way, and He will never disappoint you.”

Waiting on God is not passive. It is active trust. It is the refusal to settle for counterfeits while waiting for the genuine. It is the confidence that His help is not delayed; it is perfectly timed.

The Promise of Hebrews 10:35-38

Daddy G.O. references Hebrews 10:35-38, which encourages believers not to cast away their confidence, for it has great reward. We need endurance to do the will of God and receive what is promised. The one who is coming will come and will not delay.

The Hymn: My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less

The accompanying hymn reinforces the message. Our hope is not built on any human solution, any alternative help, any quick fix. It is built on Christ—the solid Rock. All other ground is sinking sand.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. In what areas of my life am I tempted to look for help outside of God?

  2. Have I been patient in waiting on God, or have I sought alternatives?

  3. What is the “pregnancy” in my life that seems to never come to term—the promise that has not yet delivered?

  4. How can I strengthen my trust in God’s timing and His exclusive help?

PRAYER

Father, I thank You that You alone are my help. I confess that I have been tempted at times to look elsewhere for solutions. Forgive me for every time I have sought help from sources that are not from You.

Lord, help me to wait patiently on You. Strengthen my faith to trust in Your timing. Let me not be deceived by counterfeits that look like answers but are actually traps.

I declare that my help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. I will not cast away my confidence. Your help is on the way, and You will never disappoint me.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
