TODAY’S LESSON:
A: MEMORY VERSE: “Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.” – Ecclesiastes 7:9
B: BIBLE TEXT:
Genesis 4:3-8
3 – And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 – And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 – But unto Cain and to his offering He had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 – And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 – If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 – And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
C: LESSON INTRODUCTION:
Anger is a strong feeling of displeasure, hostility or antagonism towards someone or something, usually combined with an urge to harm. Today’s bible text makes it clear that Cain killed his brother Abel because he was wroth (angry) against him. And Cain was severely punished by God for his action. Anger is commonly seen as little expression and it is often overlooked as sin. But please remember that little foxes spoil the vine (Song of Solomon 2:15).
LEADERS DIARY:
A: LESSON AIM: To expose the havoc caused by anger to men of God and see how it can be curbed.
B: TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:
i. Identify the root of anger even as a believer.
ii. And ways it can be curbed.
C: TEXT REVIEW: Genesis 4:3-8
i. Envy can lead to anger and ultimately to murder, if not quickly nip on board.
ii. Cain killed Abel because he was angry with him.
iii. And he did not go unpunished.
D: TEACHING METHOD: The leader should use the discussion method.
E: TIME MANAGEMENT: Share the teaching time using the suggested time schedule.
LESSON OUTLINES: There are two outlines:
A: MOSES AS A CASE STUDY:
1.- In Genesis 49:5-7 Jacob cursed Simeon and Levi over their anger.
2.- In Exodus 2:1-10 a man from the house of Levi got married to a woman from Levi’s house.
3.- Moses killed an Egyptian for maltreating an Israelite (unchecked anger). – Exodus 2:13
4.- Moses did not enter the promised land because of anger. – Numbers 20:10-13
Anger can stop a child of God from reaching his/her God given goal. Whether the anger is inherited or developed as a result of life situation, please nip it on the bud before it stops your destiny.
B: THE WAY OUT:
i.) Give yourself to constant prayer. – Luke 18:1
ii.) Always study the word of God. – 2 Timothy 2:15
iii.) Give heed to Holy Spirit instructions and bear the fruit of the Spirit. – Galatians 5:22-25
ACTIVITY: What stopped Moses from entering into the promised land?
SUMMARY: Please glue to the Holy Spirit for the infilling, then anger will become a stranger in your life.
CONCLUSION: RCCG HOUSE FELLOWSHIP LEADERS’ MANUAL 1ST AUGUST 2021 LESSON 48
Anger is not part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, a Christian should not exhibit it. It can lead to destruction if we refuse to completely yield to the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
