[1]Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

[2]And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

[3]Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

[4]And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

[5]So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

[6]And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

[7]Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 4:15 “For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel”

LESSON AIM: To make the children know and identify the importance of spiritual parents

CENTRAL TRUTH: God put our spiritual leaders as a ‘check’ for us

INTRODUCTION: A religious teacher or guide over your lite is your spiritual parent. You need to do a soul searching through prayers to locate the right one for you.

Spiritual parents don’t need us, we need them for everything; God put them over our lives for our spiritual well being.

1. They are Discipler

2. Someone whom you can open your heart to.

3. One with Integrity.

4. Mentor/Coach.

5. Someone who corrects.

6. Someone who counsels.

7. More than a God parent

8. Provide spiritual covering and protection.

9. They Pray for us

10. They Guides us

11. They are matured believer.

12. They fear God and teach us the way of God.

(B) BENEFITS OF HAVING SPIRITUAL PARENTS.

1. They are our role models

2. We are accountable to them

3. They give us affirmation an encouragement

4.They give good and godly advice

5. They help us to grow spiritually.

6. They help us to grow to maturity.

1. Be alert the Spirit when you are with them 2 Kings 2:10

2. Through Honor and respect – Romans 13:7

3. Through service – Mark 10:35-45

4. Bless them with resources whether materially or financially – 1 Corinthians 9:11

5. Praying for them- Hebrews 13:17-19

6. Believe them – Hebrews 13:7

7. Obey them – Hebrews 13:17

8. Always be in touch with them. Elisha could have been somewhere else on the day Elijah was to be taken away. 2 Kings 2:1-2

CONCLUSION: You are always accountable to your spiritual parents because they too will need to give account of you to God at the end of their race on earth. Note that God can use spiritual parents to cancel any curse place on our lives or family.

INVITATION: You will need a personal relation with God for Him to guide you in making His choice of spiritual parents for you.

ACTIVITY: Prayerfully let God lead you in choosing spiritual parents

LIFE APPLICATION: Obey, honor and respect your spiritual parents in the Lord
