BIBLE TEXT: John 16:8-11
[8]And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
[9]Of sin, because they believe not on me;
[10]Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
[11]Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
MEMORY VERSE John 6:8 ‘And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and ofrighteousness, and ofjudgment.
LESSON AIM: At the end of the lesson, teenagers will understand the power of
conviction through the work ofthe Holy Spirit.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Without the work of conviction by the Holy Spirit, we cannot come to repentance and be reconciled to God and live without blemish for God’s glory.
INTRODUCTION: The salvation of a soul is always preceded and accompanied by the convicting work of the Holy Spirit. No one is ever truly saved without experiencing this conviction of which Jesus spoke in John 16:7-11. The Father draws people to Christ by the Holy Spirit, and the first great work that the Holy Spirit accomplishes is the work of conviction: this means, in simple terms, that He convinces us ofour desperate need ofa Saviour.
STLDYGUIDE
RCCG JUNIOR ZEAL FOR 2022/2023 AGE 13-19 TEACHER’S MANUAL SUNDAY 11TH OF DECEMBER 2022 LESSON FIFTEEN
1.) WHAT IS CONVICTION?
|- It is a strong persuasion or belief.
2- Itis the state ofbeing convinced.
3- It is the act of convincing a person of error or of compelling the admission of truth.
4- Conviction is different from condemnation.
2.) WHATDOES THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICT THE SINNER OF?
1- He convicts the sinner of SIN,- the sin of rejecting Christ. John 16:9 John 3:18 and 3:36.
2- He convicts the sinner of RIGHTEOUSNESS. Isaiah 64:6, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 3:21-22, John 16:10.
3- He convicts the sinner ofjudgment. John 16:11, Hebrews 2:14; Revelation 12:7-9 and 20:10.
3.) HOW DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT BRING THIS CONVICTION?
1. He does His work of conviction through the preaching of the Gospel. Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4: 12, Acts 2:23-37.
2- He does His work of conviction through personal witnessing. Acts 8:26-39, Acts 24:24-25, and Acts 26:26-29.
3- He does His work of conviction by special providence and interventions. Acts 9:1-6.(Dorcas) Acts 9:36-42. (the jailer), Acts 16:25, Acts 16:26- 30.
4- He does His work of conviction in answer to the prayers of God’s people. Matthew 1 8:19.
5- He does His work of conviction through cleansed, yielded, and Spirit-filled vessels. Acts 7:54 – 60.
LIFE APPLICATION The world is a sinful place, and one of the Holy Spirit’s tasks is to convict the world of its sin., It is the work of the Holy Spirit to convict and the most basic sin the world is guilty of is unbelief. The convicting power of the Holy Spirit is at work in the world “because they believe not in (Christ].” Once a
person responds to the Holy Spirit’s conviction and turns to faith in Christ, the other sins he practiced will be taken care of. It is the sin of unbelief, a refusal to trust in Jesus-that is primary. Surrender your life to Christ and other things will be taken care of.
CONCLUSION: Conviction comes from the Lord and it leads to life and joy while
condemnation comes from Satan and leads to despair. Conviction is intended to lead us to the Lord, but condemnation drives us away from Him. Know also that the Holy Spirit corrects with love but, the devil condemns us, making us feel we cannot be forgiven.
