BIBLE TEXT: Acts 2:1-6; 14-21
[1]And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
[2]And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
[3]And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
[4]And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
[5]And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
[6]Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
Acts 2:14-21
[14]But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
[15]For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
[16]But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
[17]And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
[18]And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
[19]And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
[20]The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
[21]And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
MEMORY VERSE: ACTS 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
LESSON AIM: The children will know the importance of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and will choose to be baptised in the Holy Spirit
CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: You will receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit through Jesus
INTRODUCTION:
After Jesus was raised from the dead, He remained on the earth for forty days. During that time, He appeared to the disciples and others, teaching them about the kingdom of God. One day while they were eating, Jesus told the disciples that in just a few days they would be filled with the Holy Spirit.
PROGRESSION OF EVENT: ACTS 2:1-6, 14-21
1. Jesus’ disciples were gathered in an upper room waiting for the day of Pentecost
2. Suddenly there was a sound like a mighty wind as God sent the Holy Spirit
3. What looked like little tongues of fire appeared and the disciples begin to speak in new tongues
4. The people there were amazed because they heard the disciples praising God in their own languages
5. Some people made fun of the disciples thinking that they were drunk.
6. Peter explained to them that the ability to speak in other languages was the evidence of the Holy Spirit Jesus promised them
7. Being filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter was able to explain to all those present, God’s plan for Jesus to be crucified and be raised on the third day
8. The people were convicted after Peter’s speech and asked how they could be saved, so Peter told them to turn away from their sins
GOSPEL CONNECTION: We are all born sinners and need to be saved. Because sin separates us from God who loves us so much and sent His Son, Jesus to die for our sins. Jesus died on the cross taking the punishment for your sins and came alive again on the third day. But Jesus promised to send the comforter who is the Holy Spirit to those who believe in Him and be saved.
CLIMAX: More than three thousand people were saved that day as Peter ministered under the power of the Holy Spirit
CONCLUSION: The disciples continue to witness to people on a daily basis and many were saved.
CHALLENGE: The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a gift of God that empowers the believer to do the works of Christ (Acts 2:1-4). Has Jesus taken away your sins? Have you been “set apart” for God’s use? Ask God to give you the gift of the Holy Spirit and believe that He is going to do it (Matthew 7:7-11)
1. Close your eyes
2. Lift your face up toward heaven as if you are expecting to receive
3. Begin praising Jesus for who He is and what He has done
4. Stop thinking about what to say, and trust Jesus to give you the words to say
5. Yield your lips to the Holy Spirit and begin speaking as you feel the Spirit prompting you to speak. He will give you words to speak as you begin speaking
INVITATION: Will you like to pray to Jesus to be your Lord and Saviour and baptize you with the power of the Holy Spirit? (John 3:16).
