LESSON TWENTY (20)
TOPIC: PEACE LIKE A RIVER
TEXT: Mark 4:35-41
[35]And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
[36]And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
[37]And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
[38]And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
[39]And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
[40]And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
[41]And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
LESSON AIM: Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
CHILD RELATED TRUTH: Ask the Prince of Peace to give you peace like a river.
INTRODUCTION: Have you been afraid before? What things make children of your age to be afraid? Discuss.
If you are a child of God, you should know that Jesus has the power to give you peace when you are afraid, so always call on Him to enjoy His peace like a river.
Always say this;” Under His wings I am safely abiding; Though the night is dark and storms wild, Still I can trust Him, I know He will keep me; He has saved me, and I am His Child.
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
A. After teaching all day, Jesus told His disciples to go to the other side of the lake. vs. 35
B. They left the crowd and entered in a boat. vs. 36
C. A great storm came up. vs. 37
The disciples were afraid when they saw the huge waves!
Many times you and I are afraid, especially when we have problems. (Give examples). But if you have trusted in the Lord Jesus as your savior remember He has power to give peace when you are afraid. Peace is quietness on the inside that only the Lord Jesus can give.
D. Huge waves caused the boat to start sinking. vs. 37
E. Jesus slept soundly in the back of the boat. vs.38
F. The disciples woke Jesus crying”don’t you care if we drown?
Yes Jesus cared about them very much, and He cares for you too. He loves us more than we can ever imagine. God gave us His son Jesus to come into the world to die for our sins (John 3:16). Jesus died, gave His blood for the forgiveness of our sins Hebrews 9:22b. He was buried and He rose on the third day. Jesus cared about the disciples.
G. Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and sea saying “Peace be still” vs. 39
Only Jesus can do this because He is the Son of God. You do not have to be afraid if you trust in Jesus. He has the power to stop things that are making you to be afraid and He is always m with you. Matthew 28:20. Isn’t it wonderful that He can do anything?
CLIMAX: The wind and the sea became completely calm because of Jesus power. vs. 39 there was peace like a river.
CONCLUSION: Jesus rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith.
CHALLENGE: If you are a child of God, God wants you to always enjoy peace like a river by always putting your trusting Him.
