Lesson Bible Text:
1 Thessalonians 1 and 2
Lesson Central Truth:
Christ entrusts His followers with the life-changing gospel.
LESSON INTRODUCTION
In the Scripture readings covered for the lesson we will notice that Paul placed a strong emphasis on the fact that he, Silas, and Timothy affirmed the reliability of the gospel they preached by demonstrating its life-transforming power in their attitudes and actions toward the Thessalonians. Seeing that we have been entrusted with the gospel, it is important that our manner of living toward others will affirm the life-transforming power of the gospel. To be “entrusted with the Gospel” means teaching others to run with the message.
As believers, we have a great responsibility to make the gospel known to others and this could be achieved by our daily lifestyle which is a powerful proof of the gospel. Unbelievers should come to know Christ through our lifestyle – a Christ-like life. May the gospel that is entrusted with us never die in our hands in Jesus Matchless Name.

LESSON NUGGETS
✅️ Paul, Silas, and Timothy were exemplary ministers of the gospel and they stood to encourage the Thessalonians to believe and obey the gospel. Seeing the gospel’s life-transforming power in these ministers, the Thessalonians wanted to be like them; they believed the gospelcould make them like them, in faith and character. As believers, we are to be the true example of the gospel. Our faith, character and passion for Christ should encourage others to believe the gospel.
✅️ Saving faith in Christ transforms us, and continuing faith in Christ should result in Christ-like living. As believers, we are called to be strong examples of faith in and commitment to Christ. In living this way, we demonstrate that the gospel is true and that it cab change one’s life. When we get born again, our lives become a powerful testimony of God’s power. Our life should be epistle of God’s grace, love and encouragement. We are true definition of life-transforming power of the gospel.
✅️ The bold determination of Paul and Silas in the face of dangerous opposition had profoundly positive effect on the Thessalonians. Believers were encouraged to hold to the gospel, and to live by it, because Paul and Silas had set a great example of them. Imitating the men who brought them the gospel, the Thessalonians became bold Witnesses themselves. Wherever Paul and Silas preached the gospel, they were never motivated by a desire to take advantage of people for their own profit. When they exhorted people to believe and obey the gospel, they did so without deception, impure motives, or trickery.
✅️ It is natural to want people to like us, and tempting to desire the favour of others. But the fact is that if we live for Christ, some will be pleased while others will not. If our motivation is popular approval, we will not please God. We must ensure that our motives are pure, as well as guard against the temptation to take advantage of others. Instead, let us maintain a servant attitude. By this, our ministries will glorify God and bring lasting help to others.
✅️ Paul had already likened himself and Silas to mothers caring for their children, through the care they had shown for the Thessalonian believers. Paul went on to say that he and Silas had been like fathers as well. They had provided motherly care for the new converts in Thessalonica in gentle nurturing. And, like fathers, they had provided them with the comfort, encouragement, and exhortation necessary to learn to live “worthy of God,” Who had called them into His Kingdom. As citizens of God’s Kingdom, they needed to learn to live according to the righteousness, peace, and joy found through the Holy Spirit.
✅️ There is a well-known saying, “I don’t care what you know, until I know you care.” It is good that we know the gospel, and that we want to share the gospel with those who are unsaved. However, it is best that we communicate the gospel within the context of showing care for people and their needs. For this reason, it is good to combine Compassionate ministry with efforts to evangelise people. Simply stated, the love of God for people, shown most clearly in the gift of Jesus to be our Saviour, is not only to be told, it is also to be demonstrated by the caring, nurturing deeds of those telling the gospel. 🎤Action Word🎤
Christians have been entrusted with the gosple: first to believe it; then to obey it; and, also to proclaim it. This fact should compel us to be faithful in living by the gospel, and encouraging others to follow Christ as well.
