INTRODUCTION:

A healer is someone who is able to cure people and restore their health, and make them healthy again. Jesus is said to be the Healer because, He cured people that came across Him of all their diseases. It is only those who believe in Him that have the privilege to receive His healing.
How do you feel when you are sick? You want to get well quickly because you don’t enjoy the pain and discomfort of sickness at all. It is the same with everybody. No one likes to be sick. Sickness came as a result of sin. God did not make us to be sick. Satan is the one that inflicts sickness on people. But the good news is that God wants us to be healthy. That is why He gave us doctors and hospitals. But the best part of the story is that He gave us Jesus to be our Healer.
This week’s lesson teaches that it is the will of God for His children to be in good health. Jesus demonstrated this by healing Peter’s mother-in-law when He visited Peter’s home. This healing, done right at the beginning of the ministry of Jesus, proved that the prophecy Isaiah made about 700 years before the birth of Christ that Jesus is the Healer was true. Jesus heals all kinds of sicknesses. He also has power to cast out demons and evil spirits.

LESSON COMMENTARY:

1. JESUS HEALS PETER’S MOTHER-IN-LAW – Mark 1:29-31
Peter lived with his mother-in-law in his house. At a time she took ll and was down with high fever. One day, Jesus decided to visit Peter after He had been to the synagogue. As soon as He and His disciples left the synagogue, they went to the place Where Peter and Andrew lived. And there He was told about the fever of Peter’s mother-in-law.
On hearing it, Jesus went to her bedside. He simply took her by the hand and lifted her up. AS soon as Jesus did this, the fever immediately left her and she became well. Jesus the Healer had healed her.
As soon as she saw that she had been healed, she got up, went about the house and began to serve Jesus and the people that were with Him.
2. JESUS HEALS MANY AFTER SABBATH SUNSET – Mark 1:32-34
Jesus and His disciples remained in the house of Peter till the evening. The whole city had heard that Jesus was in town. And it happened when the sun had set, the people around began to bring everybody that was sick and those that were possessed by demons to Jesus. And before long, the whole city was gathered together at the door of Peter’s house.
Jesus came out, saw the crowd, saw the sick and all the people who were demon possessed, and had pity on them. He healed many who had various diseases. He went further and cast out many demons. But there was something He did not allow. He did not allow the evil spirits to speak and acknowledge Him. This was because they knew who He was.
3. JESUS FULFILS ISAIAH’S PROPHECY – Matthew 8:17
Matthew tells us the reason why these healings were done early during Jesus ministry, that is, at the beginning of His ministry on earth. It was so that Christ could fulfil the prophecy by Isaiah the prophet, Which has it that Jesus took our infirmities on Himself and bore our sicknesses. Isaiah gave this prophecy seven hundred years before Jesus was born that Jesus would suffer in the hands of His people and die on the cross for our sins. He prophesied through the Spirit that it is through the stripes and lacerations of Jesus that believers are healed (see Isaiah 53:3-5). I believe you have received healing from Jesus at one point or the other.
APPLICATION:
If Christ has healed us, He expects us to use our renewed health to serve Him and others just as Peter’s mother-in-law did. We are always healed to serve, not healed to be idle or lazy. But if we have not been healed, let us not lose hope. As we continue to pray In faith. He will heal us. He Is the Healer and He ls faithful. Jesus cares about how we feel and He can heal us.
Jesus the Healer can also heal our spiritual diseases. Sin is spiritual leprosy, and only Jesus can heal lt. He can heal us of the disease of lying, cheating, fighting, stealing, gossiping, etc. and make our hearts clean.
Jesus can also visit our homes If we let Him just as He visited the home of Peter. When Jesus comes into our homes, things change and the devil runs away.
