LESSON TWENTY (20)
TOPIC: PEACE LIKE A RIVER
BIBLE TEXT: Mark 4:35-41
[35]And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
[36]And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
[37]And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
[38]And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
[39]And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
[40]And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
[41]And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”
LESSON AIM: The children will know that God will give them peace when they put their trust in Jesus.
CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God will give you Peace through Jesus.
INTRODUCTION:
Children! Do you know that everybody worries sometimes? We get nervous about a test, or we are scared because our Mom and Dad are arguing, or we are afraid a bully will hit us at the playground. Sometimes, when we pray about something that worries us, God brings us peace on the outside. He takes away the thing we are anxious about. Sometimes, the thing that is worrying you keeps happening! I mean, if you pray about a test, God will not usually call off the test but when you trust Him with the test, He Will bring you peace on the inside because you are trusting in His love.
PROGRESSION OF EVENT: MARK 4:35-41.
1. Jesus suggested to His disciples to go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee after teaching the crowd all-day.
2. They left the crowd and entered the boat and a great storm arose
3. The disciples were terrified because the waves from the storm were sinking their boat.
4. They were afraid for their lives, and they could not understand why Jesus was sleeping soundly and not afraid of the storm.
5. When Jesus saw the disciples’ fear and the waves, He spoke and said peace be still and instantly the storm calmed.
GOSPEL CONNECTION: Jesus showed the disciples, and us, that He is more powerful than any storm. Jesus is God’s Son, and He has the power to protect us from all sorts of danger when we believe in Him as Lord and Saviour. Because of God’s love for us, He sent Jesus to die for our sins by shedding His life-blood on the cross for our sins to be forgiven. Jesus died and was buried but arose on the third day. You can feel safe even in a terrible storm if you have Jesus the Prince of peace
CLIMAX: The disciples were amazed when the raging waves instantly became calm.
CONCLUSION: The disciples knew how powerful Jesus was, and yet they were still afraid.
CHALLENGE: The disciples came to learn that no matter how bad a situation seemed, the first thing they needed to do was turn to Jesus. You too can turn to Jesus to give you peace in everything because He watches over you day and night. Jesus is there because He wants you to know Him personally and trust Him as your Saviour. When life gets scary, you can go to Jesus and pray, and God will give you the comfort you need to face any danger and give you peace like a river.
INVITATION: For Jesus to give you peace, you need to know Him as Lord and Saviour (John 6:47).
