BASIC SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 40: 21-30

Isaiah 40:21-30 (KJV):

21 Have ye not known? Have ye not heard? Hath it not been told you from the beginning? Have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? Saith the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall.

Devotional for September 27, 2023:

In Isaiah 40:21-30, we are reminded of the greatness and incomparable nature of our God. The passage begins with questions that invite us to consider the awe-inspiring attributes of the Almighty. “Have ye not known? Have ye not heard?” It serves as a call to reflection and recognition of God’s supremacy.

The imagery used in this passage emphasizes the vast contrast between the Creator and His creation. God is depicted as the One who sits upon the circle of the earth, whose understanding is beyond measure. The inhabitants of the earth are like grasshoppers in comparison to His majesty. He stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and nothing is beyond His control.

This passage also highlights God’s power to bring down the mighty and exalt the weak. It reassures us that no one can be compared to the Holy One. He is the Creator who knows His creation intimately, calling each star by name and upholding all things by His great might.

The latter part of the passage speaks to the weary and faint-hearted. It reminds us that even the strongest among us will grow tired and stumble. However, God offers a promise of renewal and strength. He empowers the faint and rejuvenates those who have no might. Even the youth, who may seem invincible, can become weary, but in God, they find the strength to endure.

As we face the challenges and weariness of life, let us turn to the everlasting God, the Creator of all things. His understanding is beyond our comprehension, and His strength is limitless. We are invited to cast our burdens upon Him, for He cares for us and will renew our strength. When we feel as if our way is hidden from the Lord, we can rest assured that His understanding is boundless, and His love for us is unwavering.

Today, find comfort in knowing that the God who created the heavens and the earth is the same God who strengthens the weak and uplifts the weary. In Him, we find rest and renewal, and in His unsearchable understanding, we find hope and encouragement for the journey ahead.
