In this verse from the book of Hebrews, we are reminded of the central role of Jesus Christ in our faith journey. As you reflect on this verse in your evening devotional, consider the following points:

  1. Focus on Jesus: The verse encourages us to “look unto Jesus.” In your evening meditation, take a moment to refocus your thoughts and attention on Jesus Christ. In the busyness of life, it’s easy to become distracted, but the author of our faith should always be at the center of our thoughts and actions.
  2. Author and Finisher of Faith: Jesus is not only the source of our faith but also its perfecter. He initiated our faith journey, and He continues to guide and shape it. Reflect on the progress you’ve made in your faith and seek His guidance for the path ahead.
  3. Endurance and Sacrifice: Jesus endured the cross and despised the shame for the joy set before Him. This teaches us about the value of endurance and the willingness to make sacrifices for a greater purpose. In your evening prayer, ask for the strength to endure challenges and to follow Christ’s example of sacrificial love.
  4. Exalted at God’s Right Hand: Remember that Jesus is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. This signifies His exalted and victorious position. As you conclude your day, find comfort and reassurance in knowing that you serve a risen and reigning Savior.
  5. Joy in the Journey: Consider the “joy that was set before” Jesus as He endured the cross. Reflect on the joy and hope that your faith brings to your life. Express gratitude in your evening prayers for the joy and blessings that come from your relationship with Christ.

In your evening devotional, take time to pray, meditate, and draw closer to Jesus. Let His example of endurance, sacrifice, and exaltation inspire you as you continue your faith journey. Morning & Evening Devotional Reflection September 11 2023

Today’s Verse for 09/11/2023

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. — Hebrews 12:2

Thought
Who is your hero? I’m not asking for the Sunday school class answer; I want you to look inside. Who is the person you most actively admire? Is it Jesus? Let’s admit that it is hard to “fix our eyes on Jesus” because he is not here where we can see him like our other earth-bound heroes. Jesus is, however, the ultimate adventurer, trailblazer, and superhero. He faced the horrific penalty and shame of the cross, taking away all of our sins! He did it so that we could have a hero that death and sin could not destroy, mar, or taint. He did it so that we could be confident that if we follow in his footsteps, the trail he blazed wasn’t just for him but also for all of us who follow him!

Prayer
Holy God, forgive me when I chase what is false and let my focus shift from Jesus as my ultimate hero. I want to honor and serve him, having his life come alive in me so that others may know the confidence in having Jesus as their Lord. Words cannot express my gratitude to my Lord for his sacrifice and horrible price he paid for my sins. Neither can words express my jubilation at his trailblazing victory that assures that I will someday be with you forever! It is in his name, Jesus Christ, that I pray. Amen.
