OPEN HEAVENS FOR 27TH MAY 2026

TOPIC: PRAYERS FOR CHILDREN
MEMORISE:
And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men. — 1 Samuel 2:26
READ: Psalm 127:3-5 (KJV)
Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
TODAY’S PRAYERS:
Father, I thank You for the gift of children in my family, local assembly, community, and indeed all over the world.
Father, as we celebrate Children’s Day today, let all the children have an unforgettable divine encounter that will transform their lives for good, in Jesus’ name.
Father, please help all the children around the world to grow in godly wisdom and stature. May they know You, love Your ways, and stay on the path of righteousness all their lives, in Jesus’ name.
Father, please create a longing for You in the hearts of all the children around the world. Pour out Your Spirit upon them afresh and let them love You with all their hearts, in Jesus’ name.
Father, please let Your favour rest on all the children around the world. Open doors of blessings and opportunities to their parents and guardians so that they will be able to provide for their needs.
Father, please protect all the children around me from satan’s evil plans and surround them with Your angels and a wall of fire.
Father, please protect all the children in the world from ungodly addictions. They will not be slaves to lustful desires, sin, or satan, in Jesus’ name.
Father, please let all the children around me keep godly companies in their schools, churches, and wherever they find themselves. They will not be companions of fools but will be surrounded by wise friends, teachers, and mentors, in Jesus’ name.
Father, please keep sicknesses and diseases far from all the children around me. May they grow old in good health and strength, in Jesus’ name.
Father, please position all the children around me in Your purpose at this early stage of their lives. Don’t let them wander outside Your will for them, in Jesus’ name.
Father, please give all the children around me hearts of obedience. May their lives be pleasing to You because they will know Your laws and obey them, in Jesus’ name.
Your personal prayer points for children all over the world.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Job 1-4
HYMN 22: SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief,
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Saviour shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

BRIEF COMMENTARY
Based on Open Heavens 27th May 2026 – “Prayers for Children”
Children Are a Heritage from the Lord
Today’s devotional departs from the usual message format and presents a series of prayers for children, in recognition of Children’s Day. The memory verse from 1 Samuel 2:26 describes Samuel growing in favour with both the LORD and men. This is the kind of child every believer desires—a child who is spiritually alive, morally upright, and socially gracious.
The Bible reading, Psalm 127:3-5, declares that children are an heritage from the LORD—a reward, not a burden. They are compared to arrows in the hand of a mighty man. Arrows are weapons of warfare. Your children are meant to be launched into the world to defeat the enemy, advance God’s kingdom, and speak with the enemy in the gate. A quiver full of arrows (many children) is a blessing, not a problem.
The Power of Praying for Children
The devotional emphasizes that children need prayer. They face pressures that previous generations never imagined—ungodly content online, peer pressure, secular ideologies in schools, and spiritual attacks from the enemy. Prayer is not optional for parents, grandparents, and guardians. It is essential.
The eleven prayer points cover every area of a child’s life:
1. Thanksgiving for the Gift of Children
The first prayer is gratitude. Before asking for anything, thank God for the children He has given. Whether you have biological children, spiritual children, or children in your community, they are gifts from God.
2. Divine Encounter
The prayer asks for an unforgettable divine encounter that will transform their lives. One encounter with God can set a child’s destiny. Samuel heard God’s voice as a boy. David was anointed as a youth. Josiah became king at eight and turned the nation back to God.
3. Growth in Wisdom and Stature
Like Jesus in Luke 2:52, children need to grow in four areas: mentally (wisdom), physically (stature), spiritually (favour with God), and socially (favour with men). Pray for balanced growth.
4. A Longing for God
Do not pray only for their behaviour—pray for their hearts. A longing for God will keep them when rules cannot. Pray that they love God with all their hearts, not just obey out of fear.
5. Favour and Provision
Pray for open doors of blessings and opportunities for parents and guardians. When adults prosper, children benefit. But also pray that children themselves experience God’s favour in school, in relationships, and in their talents.
6. Protection from Satan’s Plans
The enemy targets children. He knows that if he can capture the next generation, the battle is won. Pray for angels to surround them and a wall of fire to protect them.
7. Freedom from Ungodly Addictions
Addiction does not start overnight. It begins with curiosity, then experimentation, then bondage. Pray that children will be kept from the first step—ungodly content, substances, and habits. Pray that they will never become slaves to sin.
8. Godly Companions
Proverbs 13:20 says, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Pray for the friends, teachers, and mentors who will influence your children. Ask God to remove wrong companions and bring the right ones.
9. Health and Strength
Sickness and disease are not God’s will for children. Pray for divine health. Pray that they will grow old in strength, not broken by chronic illness.
10. Positioned in Purpose
Every child has a divine assignment. Pray that they discover it early and do not wander outside God’s will. Samson was called from birth but lost his way. Samuel was dedicated from birth and fulfilled his purpose. Pray for the Samuel path, not the Samson path.
11. Hearts of Obedience
Obedience is not just following rules—it is a heart posture. Pray that children will know God’s laws and obey them, not out of compulsion but out of love.
12. Your Personal Prayer Points
The devotional leaves room for your specific prayers—for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, students, or the children in your church.
The Role of Parents and Adults
Children’s Day is a reminder that adults have a responsibility. Children cannot pray for themselves the way you can. They cannot fight spiritual battles on their own. They need your intercession.
Pray for them daily, not just on Children’s Day. Pray specifically, not just generally. Pray with faith, not doubt. And pray in their presence sometimes, so they learn to pray for themselves.
Conclusion: The Promise for Children
Psalm 127:5 promises that children who are like arrows will not be ashamed. They will speak with the enemy in the gate—meaning they will defeat opposition, overcome challenges, and take their place in society.
This is God’s plan for the next generation. Not defeat—victory. Not shame—honour. Not bondage—freedom.
Pray these prayers today. Pray them tomorrow. Make praying for children a lifestyle. The harvest of your prayers will be reaped in the lives of the children you intercede for.
Prayer Point from the Devotional:
Offer the 11 prayer points above, plus your personal prayer points for children.
Action Steps:
Pray through all 11 prayer points today – do not rush. Take time to pray specifically for the children in your life by name.
Create a prayer list for children – write down the names of children you know: your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren, students, and children in your church. Pray for them by name regularly.
Involve children in prayer – if you have children in your home, pray with them. Let them hear you pray for them. Teach them to pray for themselves.
Celebrate Children’s Day intentionally – use today to bless a child. Send a card, make a call, give a gift, or simply tell a child that they are a heritage from the Lord.
Commit to ongoing prayer – set a recurring reminder to pray for children. Weekly or daily. Do not let today be the only day you intercede for the next generation.
