Unit 4: God: A Forever Friend
Study 3: A Friend Who Can Do Anything
Text: Judges 6:11-16; 2 Kings 6:1-6; Isa 38:1-8
Key Verse: Jer 32:27
Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for me?(KJV)
______
>>Focus
Young people often hear the message that they can do anything tney set out to do, as long as they believe in themselves, work hard, and keep a positive attitude. But sooner or later, everyone learns better —it doesn’t always happen that way. Thankfully, this realization doesn’t have to lead to pessimism or despair. Despite human limitations, the God whose power is limitless cares about every aspect of their lives, and wants to help them achieve all that He has planned for them.
As you prepare for this study, think of practical ways you can relay the truth of God’s omnipotence to the individual lives of your students. Rather than telling them that they can do anything they set out to do, help them understand that God can do anything He desires in their lives. Challenge them to trust in His power, even when difficulties come or their abilities don’t seem tomeasure up.
As you consider these principles, examine your own faith. Do you trust God in small matters while doubting His concern or ability to lift your heaviest burdens? Do you hesitate to bring certain problems to Him, thinking they’re too small for Him to care about? Are you resisting a particular call to serve because you think God can’t use you in that way? Make time this week to express thanks to God for His friendship, release every concern into His care, and ask Him to accomplish His in you.
SPECIAL PRAYER POINTS DURING THE RCCG OCTOBER 2022 HOLY GHOST SERVICE(Opens in a new browser tab)
>The Basic Message: Explain to students
• WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?
God can do whatever He desires.
•WHY DOES IT MATTER?
God is willing and able to intervene in our circumstances and change our lies for the better
• HOW DO I LIVE IT?
Ask God for help, even in seemingly small matters.
RADIANT LIFE TEACHER GUIDE-TEENS SUNDAY SCHOOL RESOURCE SEASON 13 October 16 2022
>>Activity Option: DOING GREAT THINGS
Have students share stories of any actual Guinness World Records they know. (You may want to share a few of yours too just google: www.guinnessworldrecords.com.) Then, discuss with them the following
questions:
• Which of stunts (i.e., remarkable feats performed) in the stories they shared would be the hardest to perform?
• What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever tried to do? Why was it difficult?
• How did it turn out?
>>Guide: Explain that while people are capable of accomplishing strange and amazing feats, Our strength, endurance, and abilities are really quite limited. Tlhere are things that can be achieved by human efforts, and there are things that are completely human capacities. None of us can save a sinner, or create life from dust. But God can do — and has done —these things. Nothing is too hard for Him to do.
>>Study Overview
Explain that today’s study considers:
• How God can do anything He desires.
• The fact that no problem is too large or small for God.
• How God uses His great power to help and care for His people.

>>inform and Discuss
a. Nothing is too big for God
Write the word omnipotence on the board and ask if anyone can define this term. Explain that omnipotence is a characteristic of God that means He can do anything He wills.
Read or have a volunteer read and summarize lsa 38:1-8. What characteristics of God does this passage reveal? [Guide: Point out that the Bible doesn’t tell us how God made the sunlight and the shadow move. But while we don’t always know the why and how of God’s actions, one thing is certain: God can do anything He wants to do—nothing is too big for Him.]
>>Note: Explain that God can always do what He wills (Job 42:2; Matt 19:26; Luke 1:37), but His desires are not like ours. His reasons for acting are always just and pure, never selfish or misguided.
b. Nothing is too small for God
Read or have a volunteer read 2 Kings 6:1-6. How does this passage show that God wants to be involved in every part of our lives? [Guide: Point out that it was God’s power (not Elisha’s) that caused the axehead to float. Just as nothing is too big for God to handle, nothing is too small to merit His concern. He cares about the things others might consider trivial: a lost axehead, a family disagreement, or a failing grade. He loves us so much that He wants to be involved in every part of our lives.]
>>Note: Many things can be beyond our grasp, but nothing s too big-of small—for God.
c. No one is too weak for God
Read or have volunteers read and summarize Judg 6:11-16. Then discuss the following questions:
1. Why was Gideon threshing wheat in a winepress? [Hint: Wheat was normally threshed in the open, where the wind could blow away the chaff. But Gideon was doing the work below ground level in a winepress because he wanted to hide it from the Midianites. These enemies had been attacking, oppressing, and pillaging the land for seven years, causing such widespread terror among the Israelites that many had fled to caves and wilderness areas.]

2. Why do you think the angel of the Lord called Gideon a “mighty warrior? (v12)? [Hint: It seems ironic that as Gideon cowered in a winepress, the angel of the Lord referred to him as a mighty warrior and instructed him to battle the very people he had been trying to avoid. But God knows that we can accomplish great things when we rely on Him.]
>>Note: God knows our potential and our future. He often calls us to do things that seem difficult or even impossible because He wants us to trust in His power, not our own.
>>Guide: Compare the language the angel of the Lord used with the language Gideon used: Write the following on the Board:
1a.— Angel of the Lord: “The Lord is with you” (v12);
1b.— Gideon: “The Lord has abandoned us” (v13).
2a.— Angel of the Lord: “strength (v14);
2b. Gideon: “weakest,” least’ (v15).
3. Why did Gideon and the angel of the Lord see things so differently?
4. In what ways do you sometimes misjudge circumstances?
5. What happens when we focus on our own weaknesses?
>> Guide: Explain that no one is too weak or flawed to be used by God. Rather than worrying about what we can’t do, we should consIder what God can do through us. When we concentrate on our weaknesses, we take focus off God and place it on ourselves. But when we trust in Him, there are no limits to what God can accomplish through our lives.
Note: The Bible teaches that God’s strength is more than enough to cover our deficiencies; for His “power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor 12:9)

Involve Them: QUOTE
“Every problem is an opportunity to prove God’s power. Every; day we encounter countless golden opportunities, brilliantly disguised as insurmountable problems.” —Charles Swindoll, in Three Steps Forward Two Steps Back.
Discuss the following questions:
• How does it make you feel to know that nothing is too big for God to handle? How can this knowledge help relieve anxiety and build your faith?
• How does it make you feel to know that nothing is too small for God to care about? How can remembering this help you trust Him with every part of your life?
• How does it make you feel to know that no one is too weak for God to use? How can understanding this give you confidence to pursue His plans?
RADIANT LIFE TEACHER GUIDE-TEENS SUNDAY SCHOOL RESOURCE SEASON 13 October 16 2022
Inspire Them
Remind students THE BASIC MESSAGE of this study, explaining WHAT the Big ldea behind the study is; WHY it matters, and HOW we can live the lesson captured in this study.
>>lnvitation Option: POWER OVER SIN
Point out that the greatest demonstration of God’s power is His victory over sin. By dying on the cross and being raised from death, Jesus made it possible for us to find forgiveness for wrongdoing and begin a new life with Him. Invite students who do not have a relationship with Christ to accept Him as the Forgiver of their sins and the Leader of their lives. Pray with those who respond.
>>Ministry Activity: GOD CAN
Some students in your class may be struggling with a problem that seems large and overwhelming. Remind them that nothing is too big for God to handle. Others may be facing a dilemma that could seem small or trivial to Some. Still others may feel that they don’t have what it takes to follow God’s plan and accomplish great things for His kingdom. Remind them that no one is too weak for God to use. Divide students into small groups and have them share their problems and concerns with one another. Then ask students to take turns to pray for those in their groups, requesting God’s help and power for each situation mentioned.
_____
>>Conclude the session by challenging students to look past their own limitations and trust God’s power throughout the coming week.
_____
>>Teacher Hint: Ask Yourself…
1. Do students understand that God can do anything He desires?
2. Can students articulate some of the ways in which God’s power relates to their lives?
3. Are students willing to trust in God’s ability to help them in every situation?
