[8]This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

LESSON AIM: To teach the children on the benefits of loving God’s words

CENTRAL TRUTH: Blessings abound in loving God’s word

INTRODUCTION: The word of God is of great essence to every believer, the whole chapter of Psalms 119 gives us an in depth study of the word of God, this will guide us in our lesson today. The Bible in Heb 4:12 says ‘For the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart. We need to love, know and obey the word of God for a blessed Christian life.

A. WHAT IS THE WORD OF GOD?

i. The word of God is life John 1:4a

ii. The word of God is light John 1:4b, Psalms 119:105

iii. It’s the testimony of God. Psalm 132:12

iv. It’s the promises of God. Psalm 105:42

v. It’s the commandment of God. Psalms 119:10

B. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO LOVE GOD’S WORD?

To love God’s word means:

1) To find joy and pleasure in it – Ps. 1:2

2) To cherish it with high value – Ps. 119:127

3) To make it priority above all other opinion – Ps. 119:128

4) To mediate on it day and night – Joshua 1:8a

5) To obey it completely – Joshua 1:8b

There are many blessings in loving the word of God; we will consider some as explained in the Bible. When we love the word of God we enjoy the following blessings:

1) Your needs are abundantly supplied – Ps. 1:3a

2) You will be fruitful and have all round success – Ps. 1:3b

3) You will not be put to shame – Ps. 119:6

4) You are able to live a pure life – Ps. 119:9

5) You are able to keep off from sin – Ps. 119:11

6) You will enjoy good success Joshua 1:8

7) Answers to prayer. John 15:7

Fulfilment of God’s purpose.

Read Psalms 119:162-166 and bring out other blessings in loving God’s word.

Ps. 119:162 – It gives you Joy

Ps. 119:163 – You will hate lying

Ps. 119:164 – It fills you with continuous Praise

Ps 119:165 – It gives great peace

Ps. 119:166 – It gives you hope

LIFE APPLICATION: God’s word is available to direct you on how to live as child of God and also destroy every hold of sin in your life.

CONCLUSION: Loving God’s word exposes you to abundant blessings here on earth andat eternal ife in heaven.

INVITATION: Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13
