[8]And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

[9](As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

[10]Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

LESSON AIM: At the end of this study, I should know about material blessings.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Riches not used for God’s glory can fly away.

INTRODUCTION: Material blessing is synonymous to financial prosperity. God blesses us with money to put roof over our head, clothes on our bodies, food to eat etc. Everybody needs material blessings to live well on earth. Poverty is not from God. Jesus died that we might be rich. Richness in that verse is not only spiritual, material blessings are also included. The summary of our text today is that God is able to bless us with every material blessing we need.

Some key points in the Bible verses to note;

1. God’s ability to bless us. Haggai 2:8, Deuteronomy 8:18.

2. Trust God and be patient. Job 14:14, 2 Cor 9:8.

3. The material blessings must be used for God’s glory. 2 Cor 9:8-9.

4. The material blessings are the harvest of your righteousness. 2 Cor 9:10

What can we do to get material blessings?

1. Matthew 6:33 – Seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness

2. Malachi 3:10 – To pay our tithes and offerings

From the following Bible verses what can you say about material blessings?

1. Deuteronomy 8:18 – It is God that give power to make wealth.

2. Proverbs 10:22 -The blessing of the Lord makes rich and add no sorrow to it.

3. Isaiah 48:17 – It is God that teach to make

profit or gain.

What should we do or not do with material blessings? Find out from these Bible verses:

1. Do not put your heart into it. Proverbs 23:5.

2. Be content with what you have. Hebrews 13:5

3. The love of money is the root of all evil. 1 Timothy 6:10

CONCLUSION: Proverbs 23:5 makes us to understand that riches can fly away when we put our eyes too much into it. Let your attitude towards material blessings be that God has given them to you to serve Him. Do not be controlled by them rather give thanks to God for them. Abraham’s prosperity came after he obeyed God. Solomon’s prosperity came after he worshiped God.

Poverty is not a sign of spirituality, so do not think that when someone is poor, it means he is not worldly and also don’t see a rich person as worldly.

As a matter of fact, true riches are found in the church.
