TEXT: Jonah 3:1-10
[1]And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
[2]Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
[3]So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
[4]And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
[5]So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
[6]For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
[7]And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
[8]But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
[9]Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
[10]And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
MEMORY VERSE: Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.”
LESSON AIM: To let the children the importance of repentance
CENTRAL TRUTH: Repentance is necessary for Salvation
INTRODUCTION: Jonah was sent by God to the people Nineveh to tell them of the imminent wrath of God upon them if they fail to turn from their wicked ways.
When they heard the warning, they believed God and proclaimed a fast seeking for God’s mercy. When God saw that they had turned from their evil ways (repented). God forgave them.

A.) THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT REPENTANCE
1,) Repentance involves recognizing you have done wrong in the past and deciding to do right going forward which begins with accepting Jesus – Matt 4:17
2.) The evidence of repentance is seen in the positive change of our lifestyle.
Repentance is not all about a change in our mind, sober feeling or confession from our mouth. It results into noticeable and evident changes in our lives. Luke 3:10-14
3.) Godly Sorrow leads to repentance. 2 Cor. 7:10
Repentance entails being sad because of one’s bad way of living leading one to turn away from such bad lifestyle, to Christ and his righteous lifestyle.
There is however, a worldly sorrow, which also makes one sad for one’s bad way of living but makes the person feel there’s no hope for a better lifestyle.
Thus, leading the person to death. Matthew 27:3-5
4.) Repentance is also required if one falls back to sin even after being born again. Psalm 51:1-10
