BIBLE TEXT: John 14:16-18

[16]And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
[17]Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
[18]I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
MEMORY VERSE: John 15:26, “But when the comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the father, He shall testify of me.”
LESSON AIM: The children wil be reminded that they can feel the comforting the presence of God.
CENTRAL TRUTH: God will comfort you through the Holy Spirit.
INTRODUCTION: When Jesus Christ was about to finish His ministry, He told His disciples that He was going away and they will not see Him anymore. They were Sorrowful. But He told them that He would not leave them comfortless. He promised to send the Holy Spirit to them that will comfort them. Jesus knew that His disciples were sorrowful because He will no longer be with them bodily that is why He promised to send them Comforter. Holy Spirit as the Comforter is meant to encourage us and strengthen us at our low moment. 0ur low moment are the moment you are faced with all kinds of discouragement, pain, sicknesses and sorrow. This study is to open our understanding to the importance of The Comforter.

STUDY GUIDE

A. HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT COMFORT US
As the Comforter He comes alongside us to pick us up by speaking tenderly to us and in a way that soothes our pain like a medicine. He does this by:
1. Communicating joy Rom. 14:17; (2 Thess. 1:6)
2. Soothes us by sharing God’s love for us Rom. 5:5, 8: (2 Cor. 13:14).
3. Teaching and leading us to the truth of God’s Word that we need John 14:26;
4. Imparts hope in an abounding measure by His power Rm. 15:13.
5. Brings forth anointing that removes burdens and destroys yokes of bondage Isaiah – 61:1-3.
B. WALKING IN THE COMFORT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
We have the benefit of God’s Word completely revealed and confirmed
a. Scriptures all-sufficient to instruct and guide us – 2 Tim 3:16-17
b. Providing all we need for life and godliness – 2 Peter 1:3
c. Revealed once for all, for which we must contend – Jude 3
2. We enjoy the comforting presence of the Spirit today through the Word
a. Which is the sword of the Spirit, an instrument used by the Spirit – Eph 6:12b.
b. A source of great comfort and patience, creating hope – Rom 15:4
3. We enjoy the comforting presence of the Spirit today through His indwelling
a. For our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit Who is in us- 1 Cor 6:19
b. And the Spirit serves as God’s instrumental agent to bless us –
Ep 3:16,20-21 c. For empowerment, comfort, bearing spiritual fruit – Rom 8:12-13; 15:13; Ga 4:6;5:22-23
With the Spirit’s indwelling in conjunction with the Word, we can walk in the comfort of the Holy Spirit!

C. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT RECEIVED THE COMFORTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. Philip – Acts 8:39
2. Apostle Paul – Acts 9:17-18
3. Apostle Peter-
4. Apostle John- Revelation
CONCLUSION: Jesus has promised not to live us comfortless.
LIFE APPLICATION: We don’t see God with our eyes, but we know that His Spirit lives in us, and we can feel that. The Holy Spirit helps us to pray, guides us, and Comforts us. We know that God is always present. We also know that we can experience God when we continue to pray, read our Bibles, and participate in worship services. He is always at work in our lives, and He will come back one day.
