TOPIC: THE MAXIMAL USE OF GOD’S BLESSINGS 3 (FOR THE FAMILIES)
BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 45:6-11
[6]For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
[7]And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
[8]So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
[9]Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:
[10]And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children’s children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:
[11]And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.
HYMN FOR TODAY: I need you to survive. Hezekiah Walker
MEMORY VERSE: ‘Haste ye, and go up lo my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not’ Genesis 45:9
LESSON AIM: At the end of this study, I should know about the maximal use of God’s blessings for their family.
CENTRAL TRUTH: God can use you to be a blessing to your family.
INTRODUCTION
Our families are our first contact in the world. We must appreciate the families we are born into. One way we can activate God’s blessings is to love our families. Never despise your family, whatever situation they are in. God can use you to change the story of your family. Jabez brought his family’s name into the Bible because of what he did. We see many people bring their families into limelight through their actions. The family of the boy whose 2 loaves and 5 fishes were used to feed 5000 must have been proud of him. And like we always say, the 12 baskets remaining must have been taken to his house.
Again, just to remind us that one reason God is blessing us is for us to be a blessing to others, starting from our own family, to our extended families and on to the society at large.
STUDY GUIDE
Joseph as a Blessing to his Family*:
Joseph realized that it was God’s arrangement for him to come to Egypt, and that one reason was for him to be a blessing to his family later, as we see in our text for today. Joseph made his family comfortable, he prepared where they will live and provided food for them.
*How can we use God’s Blessing for our Family?*
1. Love your family members. 1 Corinthians 13:1-8
2. ………………………………….. – Acts 1:18
3. Live in Peace with everyone- Romans 12:18
4. Support & help your family members. Proverbs 3:25-28
5. …………………………………..
6. Count it a privilege to be a blessing to any member of your family.
7. Remain humbłe – 1 Corinthians 4:7.
8. Pray for your family always.
9. Have a good relationship with members of your family.
LIFE APPLICATION – Look for ways you can be a blessing to your family members and start doing that.
CONCLUSION: Charity, they say begins at home. If we are good outside and members of our family cannot see or feel our good works, then we need to check ourselves. Pray that you will be a blessing to your family like Joseph was.
