BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 41:3-47:12
Genesis 41:3-16
[3]And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.
[4]And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.
[5]And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.
[6]And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
[7]And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
[8]And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
[9]Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:
[10]Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the chief baker:
[11]And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
[12]And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.
[13]And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.
[14]Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.
[15]And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
[16]And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace……………….

INTRODUCTION: If someone did something bad to you would you keep being mad at them and hold a grudge? Or would you forgive them? (Give the children room to answer). Many years before Joseph was sold as a slave in Egypt, he was living in Canaan with his father and brothers. His brothers had been so angry with him that they sold him as a slave. Joseph’s father did not know Joseph had been sold as a slave. He thought Joseph was dead.

LESSON FORTY ONE (41)
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS: Genesis 41:3-47:12
1. There was a famine in the land, at that time there was Only one place where there was plenty of food to eat and that place was Egypt
2. Egypt had enough food because Joseph was in charge, he interpreted Pharoah’s dream correctly and told everyone store extra grain so there was food when famine came
3. Joseph was very wealthy and had a family, he was second in command only to the Pharaoh.
4. But now Joseph’s brothers and father were in trouble because of the famine they did not have enough food
GOSPEL CONNECTION: We are all in trouble because we have sinned. God rescued us because He loves us and sent His Son Jesus to die for the sins of the whole world. Jesus suffered, died, and was buried but rose again on the third day so that you can have your sins forgiven (John 3:16). God sent Joseph to Egypt so that he can save his family
5. Israel, Joseph’s father, sent his ten oldest sons to Egypt to buy grain. Only his youngest son, Benjamin, stayed home with Israel.
6. The brothers did not recognize Joseph when they saw him but he knew who they were.
7. Joseph was glad to see his brothers but he wanted to know if they still hated him like they used to. He wanted to know if they were sorry for what they had done to him.
8. Joseph did not tell them who he was, he told them that he would give them grain if they would bring Benjamin back with them the next time and he said that Simeon would stay with him until they came back
9. As time went by the grain was all used up and Israel and his family became hungry again. Israel did not want the brothers to take his youngest son, Benjamin but had to let him because they needed food

LESSON FORTY ONE (41)
CLIMAX: Joseph later revealed himself to his brothers after a series of tests. Joseph invited his whole family to live in Egypt. Pharoah met Joseph’s father and agreed that he and his family should live in the land of Goshen in Egypt.
CONCLUSION: Joseph forgave his brothers and always took care of his family. Even though there was a famine Joseph’s father brothers were all safe in Egypt.
CHALLENGE: God also works out everything for our good. Just as he did with Joseph, he can use our mistakes to help us grow, teach us, and prepare us for new challenges down the road. If we want God to work things out for the good, we need to first confess our sins. We need to tell God we are sorry, and we need to tell anyone we have wronged we are sorry as well. Once we’ve admitted our mistake we need to also forgive ourselves. We need to remember that none of us are perfect, and we need to give ourselves a break as well. When we ask forgiveness and forgive ourselves, it is then that God can work things out. God will use our mistakes to grow our faith and to show others He is faithful to forgive.
