TOPIC: MATERIAL BLESSING
BIBLE TEXT: 2 Kings 4:1-7
[1]Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
[2]And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
[3]Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
[4]And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
[5]So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
[6]And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
[7]Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

CHILD RELATED TRUTH: Trust God for the provision of all your material blessings.
INTRODUCTION: Mathew 6:31-32 “Therefore do not worry, saying what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or what shall we wear?
For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
More than hearts can imagine or minds comprehend, Gods bountiful provisions are ours without end.

A. In desperation a mother of two sons whose husband has died, cried to Elisha for help.
B. The creditor (bill collector) was coming to take the widow’s sons as slaves because she was unable to pay her bills.
C. After asking the widow what she had in her house. Elisha discovered her only possession was one jar of oil.
D. Elisha shared God’s plan with the widow, borrow many empty jars and begin filling them one by one with oil.
God loved the widow and her sons very much! He cared about
their needs and what would happen to them. God loves you very much too and He knows your greatest need is to know Him. The only way to know God is by receiving His son Jesus
Christ as your Lord and Saviour (John 3:16).
God wants to forgive your sin Romans 3:23 so He gave you Jesus Christ who died for your sin Hebrew 9:22b.
God cares about you and wants to make you part of His family forever, He cares about you and your needs as He cared for the widow and her needs.
E. As the widow obeyed Elisha’s command, expecting God to supply her needs, she showed evidence of God’s peace in an
uncertain situation.
Only God by His mighty power can provide what you need when you need it so
(1) Talk to God
(2) Listen to God (read or listen to God’s word)
Your heavenly father will provide all you need in hard times.
CLIMAX: God caused the oil to continue to flow until all the jars were full.
CONCLUSION: The widow told Elisha what had happened and He instructed the widow to sell the oil and pay the debt, then use the
remaining money to take care of herself and her sons.
CHALLENGE: If you are already God’s child, remember, your Heavenly father promises to provide all you needs in hard times.
Just give God a chance to open His treasures and He will fill your life with the greatest pleasures.
INVITATION: God loved the widow and her sons, He provided for them by His power He loves you too and wants to be your Heavenly
Father, providing for you needs too. Are you His child? Receive Jesus today as your Lord and Saviour John 1:12.
