BIBLE TEXT: John 14:15-21

[15]If ye love me, keep my commandments.
[16]And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
[17]Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
[18]I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
[19]Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
[20]At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
[21]He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

INTRODUCTION:

Hello, children of God! Has anyone ever told you that they had a gift to give you? Maybe it was a birthday present that your friend bought a few days before your birthday. Your friend told you that he had a gift waiting for you and that you would love it. You were so excited. You didn’t know what it was, but you looked forward to receiving it because you knew that your friend would give you a special gift, Jesus promised His disciples that when He left, He would send them the very special gift of God’s Holy Spirit. They looked forward to the gift, even though they didn’t understand exactly what it would be like to have it. After all, Jesus promised that having this gift would be better than having Him right there with them! This would be some gift! They waited expectantly, believing they would receive this gift

PROGRESSION OF EVENT: JOHN 14:15-21

1. The night before Jesus willingly went to the cross, spent time with His disciples, teaching them the most important things.
2. Knowing what was ahead for them, Jesus wanted them to take every word to heart
3. Jesus made some really big promises to His disciples
4. Jesus said that when He went to be with His Heavenly Father, He would send God’s Holy Spirit to live in each of them.
5. Jesus promised them that it was best for them that He leave so He could send God’s Spirit to live inside of each of them
6. Jesus promised the disciples that the Holy Spirit would come to them
7. And He also said that the Holy Spirit would be a helper and not just any helper
GOSPEL CONNECTION: Jesus promised His disciples that when He left, He would send them God’s Holy Spirit, and in His power, they would do impossible things and teach wit authority. Should the disciples believe Jesus’ promise? Yes because He is the perfect Son of God who came down to earth to die for their sins. If He did not die and rise again, the Holy Spirit can not come to them. Jesus died on the cross, was buried and He came alive again on the third day. You too can have the Holy Spirit if you trust in Jesus as your Saviour.
CLIMAX: The Holy Spirit will teach the disciples all thing and bring back to their mind all that Jesus taught them

CONCLUSION: Jesus promised His disciples that when He left He would send them God’s Holy Spirit, and in His power, they would do impossible things and teach with authority.
CHALLENGE: When we have Jesus in our hearts, We know that He is present, even without seeing Him. And how do we live in Him? Well, we can read His Word, talk to Him, and worship at all times. Doing things like that is not a duty or obligation, but a joyful way in which we can stay connected to God. Jesus promises that when He sends the Spirit, we will know that Jesus is God, and the Spirit is God also.
INVITATION: The only way you can receive the promised Holy Spirit is to believe in Jesus as Lord and Saviour and be saved(Acts 16:31)
