BIBLE TEXT: 1 Kings 18: 1, 2, 17-46

[1]And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

[2]And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.

[17]And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?

[18]And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.

[19]Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.

[20]So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

[21]And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

[22]Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men………

Nothing can fill the soul but God,

Nothing can quiet the soul but God.

Nothing can satisfy the soul but God,

Nothing can secure the soul but God.,

Nothing can save the soul but God.

Ask God to fill you with His power and spiritual blessings.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS

A. As the drought came to an end, the Lord instructed Elijah go to King Ahab with message that God would send rain.

B. King Ahab blessed Elijah for the drought, but Elijah reminded him that God had sent it because Ahab had led the people to serve idols

C. Elijah challenged the 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Ashera to a contest on Mount Camel.

D. As the people gathered at Mount Carmel, Elijah sternly told them to decide between God and Baal. The people of Israel had combined the worship of Baal with worship of the living and true God. But God had clearly told them to worship Him alone Exodus 20:3-5. Some Christians today wants to worship God, yet they give other things first place in their lives e.g wealth, clothes, television, sports, see these things are not sin but they become sin when you make them

more important than God. And God warned us against such Matthew 6:19, 21. So Elijah warned Israelites to choose between God and Baal.

E. Elijah explained how the challenge would be carried out.

F. Baal prophets prayed, but received no answer. Baal could not answer because he was false god. Only God the Creator who lives in heaven can answer prayers. Jeremiah 3:3.

This living and true God loves you and wants you to call on Him to save you from your sin. Romans 10:13.

Yours sin separates you from God. Jesus made payment for your sins with His precious blood Isaiah 53:6.

If you call on Jesus to save you He will give you eternal life. Baal or those things you made more important than God cannot give you eternal life.

G. Elijah repaired a broken altar of the Lord with twelve stones: then he prepared his sacrifice and pour water over it all.

H. Elijah prayed, asking God to show the people that He was the true God.

I. God sent fire and completely consuming Elijah sacrifice. God showed his power and spiritual blessing in the life of Elijah. You too can have and demonstrate the power of God as spiritual blessing if you don’t allow anything to take God’s place in your life. As you are prepared to give God his rightful place in your life, He will bless you spiritually and meet all your needs Matthew 6:33. God longed for Israel to give Him all their heart and worship, by sending fire from heaven through His servant Elijah. He showed them in a miraculous way that He is the true God that same way He wants to use you to let the word know that He is a true God by giving you spiritual blessing.

CLIMAX: Convinced by what they saw, the people bowed in worship, exclaiming “The LORD, He is God”.

CONCLUSION: The prophets of Baal were put to death and Elijah announced the end of drought and went to pray. God sent heavy rain, ending the drought.

CHALLENGE: As a child of God, ask God to give you spiritual blessings, so that through you people will accept and worship God as the true God. You need the power of God to overcome all the lies of the devil. Pray, ask for the power of God in your life so you can live a victoriously as a child of God.

INVITATION: Call on God for salvation now (Romans 10: 13)
