TOPIC: THE BLESSING OF GOD
Read: Deuteronomy 28:1-14
1. And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2. And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
3. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
4. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
5. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
6. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
7. The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
8. The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
9. The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.
10. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.
11. And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
12. The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13. And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
14. And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

“The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
Proverbs 10:22”
When the Lord blesses the work of your hands, you will not only have great wealth, it will come with peace of mind. Wealth that comes from scheming and plotting against people will bring all sorts of trouble along with it. Haman was a rich man; in fact, he was second-in command to the King, yet, he was jealous and envious of Mordecai who was far below his rank (Esther 3:1-5 ). Do you want to enjoy great wealth as well as peace of mind? Seek the blessing of the Lord.How does this blessing of the Lord come? Deuteronomy 28:1 tell us:
“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.”
The blessing of the Lord comes through hearkening to the voice of God and then observing to do all His commandments. First, you must pay very close attention to His word, and then you must do exactly what He says. It is that simple. When the widow of Zarephath came into great wealth, it was because the Prophet gave her specific instructions and she obeyed them all, just as he directed her.There was a man who was a manager in his place of work and he kept asking God, For how long am I going to be an employee? Please prosper me greatly so I can also be an employer of labour. God told him to begin to roast and sell peanuts coated with honey. He obeyed. The last time I heard about him, he already had two private jets.Sometimes, to get these specific instructions from God, you need to cry to Him in prayer as the widow did to Elisha. In the meantime, obey all the instructions you have read in the Bible. He said if you bring your tithe into His storehouse, then you will get a blessing so large that your present bank account will not be able to contain it hearken. 20. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21. And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23. And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Imagine there is a robbery on the street next to yours Iand your neighbour comes to inform you about it. Im sure you would immediately take all necessary precautions to ensure that you dont get robbed too. If we care so much about our earthly possessions, why then dont we care about our souls? The rich man told Abraham that if someone did not go back from the dead to warn his brothers about hell, they would not listen to the prophets around them. Abraham responded that if they didnt listen to the prophets, they would likewise not listen to a resurrected Lazarus. If you are ignoring the preachers warning you about hell now, you are already on your way there. Even though many people have died and come back to life with stories about heaven and hell, some people have still not repented. If the message of Jesus Christ is not enough for you to repent from your sins, I dont know what greater message can make you do so.
“For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”
Hebrews 10:26-27If you continue to ignore the gospel of Christ or commit sin even when you know the anguish of hell, then you are toying with eternal damnation. Many times, the dead wish that they could tell us what is happening on the other side but they cant communicate with us here. While many are suffering in hell, some of their family members on earth are basking in the pleasures of sin, unaware of the dangers that await them if they dont repent. There are also many in heaven constantly hoping that all their family members make it to heaven too.A man who went to heaven and came back shared his story. He said whenever someone gives his life to Christ, there is great rejoicing in heaven because the fellow has escaped damnation. However, when a Christian backslides, they are all sad because the fellow will be heading for hell. Brethren, God has sent me to you today to warn you about the life after. Live holy so that you will end up in heaven and not hell.
Point
PrayersSet aside every weight of sin so that you can win the race to heaven. If you dont go to heaven, the only other option is hell.

Many people, in their bid to get to the top and be accepted by others, like to jump on trends which only keep them at the bottom. The only people who get to the top are those who do not yield to the pressure to be like everyone else but create a path for others to follow. These people are always true to themselves. Many people have lost their personal identity in Christ and the real purpose of God for their lives because they are trying to be like everyone else. I have listened to many preachers I admire a lot. I admire how they deliver their sermons. I admire them, I like them, but I dont copy them. Rather, I do it the way the Lord has taught me to. While the word is being preached, the sick are getting healed, the barren are made fruitful, captives of the devil are set free and many souls are saved. I am simply doing what God asked me to and He is helping me. That is how to get to the top. Psalms 121:1 says, I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. If you want Gods help, then your eyes must be fixed on Him, not what is trending. Jesus said in John 5:19
“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do
nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.”
The fellow who wants to be accepted by everybody will not focus on what is important. Instead, his mind will be distracted by peoples perceptions. In my own field of practice, what is most important is intimacy with God. People come to me not because they like my face or for the fact that I studied Mathematics. It is because they know that I am close to the Lord and so if they want to hear from Him, I will tell them directly the mind of God. They are confident that if I ask God for something on their behalf, He would listen.Several years ago, when many ministers of God were wearing big flowing robes and I continued with my little French suits, people called me names, but I wasnt bothered. You cannot be like everybody else and become a role model. A role model is someone who others copy, not someone who copies others. Dont copy the ways of the world; copy Christ and the world will come and copy you.
Point
Don’t be afraid to be different from everybody else as long as you are obeying and copying Christ.
