LESSON THIRTEEN (13)
TOPIC: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE LOVE OF CHRIST
MEMORY VERSE: John 3.16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
BIBLE TEXT: 1 John 4.8 -13
8 – He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 – In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 – Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 – Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 – No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us.
13 – Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit.
LESSON AIM: To let children know the love of Christ.
CENTRAL TRUTH: The love of Christ gives us the gift of salvation.
INTRODUCTION: God sent His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, into the world that we might live through Those who do not reject the love of Christ shall inherit the kingdom of God. The love of Christ gives us eternal life.
STUDY GUIDE:
A: THE LOVE OF CHRIST:
1 It refers to the love of Jesus Christ demonstrated on the cross by dying for our sins.
2 It refers to the love of Christ demonstrated by giving us the power of the Holy Ghost after His resurrection.
3 It refers to the love of Christ shown by the promise of eternal life to those who believe.
B: IMPORTANCE OF THE LOVE OF CHRIST:
1 He first loved us and He expects us to love others. John 15:12
2 It makes us to love Him in return for His sacrifice for us. Ephesians 5:2
3 God the father brought about the work of salvation through Christ. Isaiah 6:8
4 Christ willingly sacrificed Himself based on His love and obedience to the father. John 10:17
5 His love unites the body of Christ together. John 13:34
6 His love gives us perfect love. 1 John 4:18
7 His love makes us to trust God more. Matthew 12:21, Matthew 2:13
8 His love makes us a better Christian for we bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23
CONCLUSION: The love of Christ brought about eternal life for us.
INVITATION: You can only show the love of Christ to others by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
ACTIVITY: Mention 5 (five) ways you can demonstrate the love of Christ.
LIFE APPLICATION: The love of Christ compels us to show love to others, to love Him too, for He first loved you. His great love brought you salvation. Luke 19:10
