SUB-THEME: PEOPLE WHO SOUGHT THE PEACE OF THE LAND.
TOPIC: GAMALIEL.
TEXT: ACTS 5:33-39.
33 When the Council heard this, they became furious and wanted to kill them.
34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law who was respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and ordered the men to be taken outside for a little while. [Act 22:3]
35 Then he told them, “Fellow Israelis, consider carefully what you propose to do to these men.
36 For in the recent past Theudas appeared, claiming that he was important, and about 400 men joined him. He was killed, and all his followers were dispersed and disappeared. Act 21:38
37 After that man, at the time of the census, Judas the Galilean appeared and got people to follow him. He, too, died, and all his followers were scattered.
38 “I’m telling you to keep away from these men for now. Leave them alone, because if this plan or movement is of human origin, it will fail. Pro 21:30 Isa 8:10 Mat 15:13
39 However, if it’s from God, you won’t be able to stop them, and you may even discover that you are fighting against God!” So they were convinced by him. Act 9:5 Act 23:9

MESSAGE:
Shortly after Jesus’ ascension, his disciples began to face persecution (see John 16:1-4, 33). The council and the whole body of elders were enraged and wanted to kill the apostles. But Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, spoke up and advised the council to allow the disciples to continue their work saying, if it is of God then it will endure as against many false movements that had folded up. He persuaded the council such that the disciples were not restricted from preaching the gospel. Christianity and some evangelistic activities are being opposed and prohibited in some areas. Influential Christians and other people of goodwill must not keep quiet when wickedness is being perpetrated or ungodly principles implemented. Speak in defense of the gospel.
REFLECTION: Be a voice for the voiceless.
PRAYER:
Help me Lord to speak up in defense of the truth. Amen.
MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH: 3 JOHN 11.
Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The person who does what is good is from God. The person who does what is evil has never seen God. Psa 37:27 Isa 1:16 1Pe 3:11 1Jn 3:6.
