BIBLE TEXT: JEREMIAH 9:23-24
[23]Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
[24]But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
MEMORY VERSE : 2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in grace, and in the Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.”
LESSON AIM: Children will know what it means to know God and that God desires for them to know Him now.
CHILD RELATED TRUTH: God has the desire for you to know Him through Jesus Christ.
INTRODUCTION: When we think one way about God, we can see Him as smaller than He really is. As we begin to study the bible and walk with Him on the journey of faith, we begin to know Him more and more. God desires for us to know Him for who He really is, not who we think He is. When we begin to pursue a true knowledge of God, it is amazing to see how big He really is. We are going to look in the Bible today and read
a command directly from God about His desire for us to know Him.
PROGRESSION OFEVENTS
1. Thus says the LORD, ‘Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom,
2. And let not the mighty man boast of his might
3. Let not a rich man boast of his riches
4 But let him who boasts, boast of this, that he understands and knows Me
GOSPEL CONNECTION: Knowing God goes beyond the room you are in. You should be pursuing knowledge of God every day because of the love He has for you and sending His Son Jesus as a sacriifice for your sin. Jesus shed His lifeblood for all your sins to be forgiven if you repent from them.
5. That l am the LORD who exercises loving-kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth,
6. For I delight in these things, declares the LORD”
CLIMAX: The Lord says that the only boasting He loves is the one that you know Him and continue to grow in knowing Him.
CONCLUSION: Wisdom is Foolishness and Weak Becomes Strong.
CHALLENGE: We try to brag about our abilities or imagine that on our own we can take care of ourselves, but it’s just not true. Our whole being
should be found in Christ. Our value, boasting, and joy can come only from Him. Remember that our identity can be placed in several things in our mind’s eye, but ultimately there is only one hero who is worthy of boasting and only one thing that gives us power. All of the positive skills or attributes we might have ultimately come from Him. When we remember that, God will honor our humility and raise us up again.
INVITATION: For you to know God, you need to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour (John 1:12)
