MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”

LESSON AIM: To understand the importance of mentorship in the life of a believer.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Having a mentor is significant in the development of an individual. Having a good mentor is important in the development of a Christian in their journey with Christ.

INTRODUCTION: A mentor is someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced and often younger person. When you are new to a particular field of interest, you will need someone to help you navigate and teach you to develop. As believers, we should have mentors to help us develop and strengthen us in our Christian journey.

1. Models: Mentors serve as models to their mentees who is influenced by them and often imitate their behavior [Hebrews 13:7, Philippians 3:17, Titus 2:4-5]

2. Help/strengthen: Mentors help, assist and strengthen believers in their Christian journey (Ecclesiastes 4:9-1 0, Proverbs 27:17].

3. Encouragement: Mentors encourage and uplift their mentees. There are times a believer will be down, exhausted, weary, or on the brink of giving up but mentors are there to encourage them and build their faith. [Hebrews 10:24-25]).

4. Correction: Mentors correct, critique or instruct believers and show them the right way to go about things. Jesus is seen to have corrected his disciples on several occasions [Luke 9:52-56, Mark 10:13-14].

5. Guidance: Mentors serve as a guide, instructing and teaching believers as they grow in the faith [Proverbs 20: 18, Proverbs 9:9].

6. Follow up: A mentor does the job of checking up on believers as they grow. They do not abandon them but check on them from time to time.

DISCUSSION: Is a spiritual father the same as a mentor? Is there a difference? And what is the reason for your answer?

LIFE APPLICATION: It is important to get a mentor as a believer to help your growth and development. A mentor may be your pastor, teacher, biological parent or sibling, and may even be younger than you. They should meet the good leadership qualities and most importantly pray before choosing one.

CONCLUSION:Tt is not just enough to get a mentor, we must also be willing and humble mentees ready to be obedient and learn. Overall, to receive guidance in navigating and developing your spiritual journey, a mentor is important to get this guidance

LESSON AIM: To understand sexuality strictly by the Word of God

CENTRAL TRUTH: God created sex for a man and woman who are married to each other.

INTRODUCTION: As teenagers, having reached the age of puberty, it is important to have an understanding of sexuality from the Word of God so as not to fall into the wrong ideologies about sexuality or make regrettable decisions. Sex in itself is not bad and only becomes a sin when it goes contrary to how God intended it. We will deeply explore sexuality according to the Word of God.

1. Between a man and a woman: God designed sex between a man and woman and this is why only this relationship can produce children [Mark 10:6-8], [Leviticus 18:22].

2. It must be between a married man and a married woman who are married to each other}: If sex occurs between a man and a woman who are not married to each other, it is a sin. This is called fornication. [1 Corinthians 7:1-4].

3. It must not occur with anyone other than their married partner: Sex with someone that is not your married partner is a sin. It is called adultery. [Exodus 20:14, Hebrews 13:4].

4. Sexual sin is a sin against the body: The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we must therefore not defile the body. Sexual sin defiles the body. [1 Corinthians 6:18).

5. Sexual sin is also committed in the mind: Sexual sin is not only committed through sexual contact but lustful thinking. Pornography and masturbation are good examples of this. [Matthew 5:28].

1. Sin against the body: Sexual sin is a sin against your body which is the temple of the holy spirit. Sexual sin defiles the body. [1 Corinthians 6:18, Ephesians 4:30, Mark 7:22-23].

2. Soul ties are formed: “the two shall become one flesh” soul ties are formed from sexual intercourse because sex is more than a physical act. Sexual immorality ties you with someone other than your spouse and such person may.have evil background causing evil ties. [ 1 Corinthians 6:16].

3. Judgment: Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. [Hebrews 1 3:4].

4. The sexually immoral will not inherit the kingdom of God. [1 Corinthians 6:9].

5. Lack of trust: Sexual immorality often leads to a breakdown of trust and respect between married couples.

6. Unwanted pregnancy: Sexual promiscuity oftentimes lead to unwanted pregnancy. This may become an unwanted burden, especially for a teen who is still trying to develop in life. Abortion is not an option as it is also a sin.

7. STD: Sexual promiscuity may also lead to the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

8. Unfulfilment/Emptiness: The sexually immoral or sexually promiscuous often feel empty and unfulfilled because they lose a sense of trust, and faithfulness and have no sense of real love as God has ordained it.

DISCUSSION: What are the modern secular views on sexuality and debunk these views from what you learned today? How can teenagers manage natural sexual urges?

LIFE APPLICATION:In today’s society, sexual immorality has been normalized and favored. Something once sacred has become secular. As children of God, we are to watch and pray and take necessary steps to remain sexually pure until marriage and faithful thereafter. On confusing issues on sexuality, you can talk to a trusted guardian or teacher preferably someone of the same gender as you}. But in all, your view on sexuality must not be outside the word of God. Do not listen to any view that Is contrary to God’s.

CONCLUSION: Overall, we must abstain from all forms of sexual immorality as children of God. But as for anyone who has found themselves involved in such, it is not the end of the world, 1 John 1:9; If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. People before you have remained pure until marriage and stayed faithful and with the help of the Holy Spirit, so can you.

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”.

LESSON AIM: To understand repentance and its significance as a Christian virtue

CENTRAL TRUTH: Only a truly repentant person can receive forgiveness from God

INTRODUCTION: Repentance is reviewing one’s actions with sincere regret and remorse for past wrongs, which is accompanied by a commitment to actual actions that show and prove a change for the better. A person in sin with feelings of regret and remorse shows repentance for the forgiveness of his sins. God will only forgive a genuinely repentant heart.

1. Humility: A truly repentant person is not proud. He knows his lowly state and humbles himself before God for forgiveness [2 Chronicles 7:14].

2. Acknowledgment: One must acknowledge in their hearts that they have done wrong. You cannot be repentant if you feel what you have done is justifiable or if you refuse to take responsibility for your actions (Psalm 51:3]

3. Regret or remorse: True repentance involves a sorrowful heart. A heart that regrets its actions [2 Corinthians 7:9-10, Jeremiah 31:19].

4. Desire to change: One is truly repentant if they have no desire to go back to their sinful ways. A person who desires to still go on in the same forbidden action is not truly repentant. [Jonah 3:1, Proverbs 28: 1 3b, 2 Chronicles 7:14].

5. Transparency: Genuine repentance involves total transparency. You should not cover up but be open to God about what you’ve done. You cannot cover up some part and only be repentant about another part. [Proverbs 28:13].

5. Fruits of repentance: we can tell a truly repentant person from the way they behave. They bear good fruits (Matthew 3:8].

DISCUSSION: Looking at the life of Saul and David, discuss how we see genuine and non-genuine repentance.

LIFE APPLICATION: There may be times we fall, but when this happens we should have godly sorrow and be unwilling to go back to what made us fall. When we humble ourselves and are repentant, God will forgive us.

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Timothy 2:21 “If a man there fore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.'”

LESSON AIM: Understanding sanctification and its significance in the life of a Christian.

CENTRAL TRUTH:Sanctification is a necessary step every believer must take in their Christian race.

INTRODUCTION: Sanctification is the state or process of being set apart. As believers we are to set ourselves apart, purify our minds and align ourselves to God’s will. We are in this world but not of it. Sanctification involves staying away or separating ourselves from anything that will corrupt or make us unholy to be vessels for use.

DISCUSSION: Is it possible to live a holy life free from sin or it is unattainable?

LIFE APPLICATION: Every day we should make a conscious effort to live holy, separate ourselves from worldly things. It is a day-by-day activity in every area of our lives and consistency is key may God give us the grace to be consistent.

CONCLUSION: Moreover, we can see that sanctification is important for all believers because have been born again, and we cannot go back to our old lifestyle. It is a transition into a new and pure lifestyle that makes us honorable vessels for God’s use. Are you living a life separated from worldly things? If you are not, set yourselves apart today.

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Thessalonians 4:17 “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord”.

LESSON AIM: Rapture guarantees a true Church of her everlasting union with God in His kingdom.

CENTRAL TRUTH: We don’t know the day or the hour, but Jesus has given us indications as to the season of time with specific preceding events to look out for, hence His encouragement for His people to “watch.” (Matt. 24: 32-36).

INTRODUCTION:When Apostle Paul wrote about those who have fallen asleep, he was talking about Christians who have died. When a person who knows the Lord dies, his body may be in the grave, but his/her spirit goes to be with the Lord, so in a sense, he never dies (John. 11:11-14).

STUDY GUIDE

1. WHAT IS RAPTURE?

The word Rapture is a word we use to describe the true Church, those born again of God, being caught up to heaven.

How Will Rapture Take Place?: When Jesus comes down from heaven, verse 14 tells us that He will bring with Him the spirits of those who are in heaven with the Lord. There resurrection bodies will rise first before those who are alive and remain in earth are caught up also to be with the Lord….vs 16-17;1 Thess. 5:9.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Who is the true Church and what are the characteristics of a true Church?

Some say there are no prophesied events that must occur before the Church is caught away. They believe that the Rapture could occur at any minute. Like a thief in the night is not expected, they say that Christ will come at an unexpected time. But Jesus said that believers will know the season of time, but not the exact day or hour (Matt. 24:32-36).

3. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF RAPTURE IN GOD’S REDEMPTION PLAN?

God’s redemptive plan is to restore what was lost in Adam. The resurrection of believers is part of that restoration (Rm. 8:18-23). However, the scriptures also teach that before the establishment of the Messianic kingdom at the return of Christ, God will pour His wrath out upon the world opposed to His rule. The Church is promised reprieve from this wrath, and the Rapture is the means by which it is protected.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: What is the essence of Rapture in the life of a true Church?

LIFE APPLICATION: As true Church that is rapturable, our new body will be like Christ’s glorious body (Phil. 3:20).

CONCLUSION: On the day of Rapture, our bodies will be raised, and we will see His face and be transformed into His image.

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in his body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

LESSON AIM: Teenagers are to know that there is going to be a time when all will be judged by God. The way we live our lives matters so let us always check our ways of life to be sure that we are still in Christ Jesus.

CENTRAL TRUTH: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10.

INTRODUCTION: Judgment Day. Also known as the Final Judgment. It is the very last thing that happens before God destroys the old heaven and the old earth, which are corrupt on account of sin. Before He creates His new heaven and new earth, He has to do away with anything that could bring sin into the new creation.

The devil has just been cast into the lake of fire, where the beast and the false prophet (Antichrist) have already been since they were defeated when Jesus returned before the beginning of the millennium. This is to be the eternal retribution for their sin and rebellion against God. Now the time has come for God to judge who is to join them in the lake of fire, and who is worthy of a place on the new earth.

Excluded from this judgment will be those who are the brides of Christ. They have already stood before the judgment seat of Christ while they were in the situations of their daily lives. They have let God’s light shine in their hearts, pointing out the sin and unrighteousness that needed to be dealt with. They have, of their own free will acknowledged their sin, taken up a battle against it and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. More than just receiving forgiveness for sin, they have used the power available in the Spirit to overcome it. “For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.” 1 Corinthians 11:31-32.

Also excluded are the martyrs-those who went through the tribulation, resisted the beast, did not take the mark of the beast and were killed because of their faithfulness. (Revelation 13:15-17) They have already been tried and proven and have reigned with Jesus through the Millennium. (Revelation 20:4)

3.) THE TWO BASIC JUDGEMENT FOR ALL MANKIND

First, there will be a general judgement of all mankind. There will only be one item considered there that matters whether a person accepted or rejected Jesus payment for their sin. Those who have accepted Jesus’ payment and have chosen to be with God will be judged based on Jesus’ performance. As a result, they will be found “not guilty’ of sin and get to spend all of eternity with him. Those who have rejected Jesus’ payment for their sins get to be judged on their own performance. Since everyone has blown it at some point. those who have chosen to reject God will get what they choose and be sentenced to spend all of eternity separated from God.

The second judgement is just for believers. They will be evaluated on what they did with the Gospel. It’s not a judgement of punishment, but rather a judgement of rewards. Rewards will be passed out based on folks’ obedience to Christ. But they get to skip the punishment part because they accepted Jesus’ payment for the punishment they deserved.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Who are the people to be judged and on what grounds?

The Bible declares that God “has set a day in which he purposes to judge the inhabited earth.” (Acts 17:31). This day of judgment, also known as the Final Judgment, is when Jesus, the Son of God, will judge “the living and the dead” before destroying the old heaven and earth, which are corrupted by sin. Sin can be defined as anything that opposes God’s will and law. To engage in sin is to disobey or abuse His laws. Because the urge to sin resides in human nature, mankind is corrupted and somewhat driven by the immoral inclinations that live in all people. This is a consequence of the fall into sin in the garden of Eden. Before creating His new heaven and earth, God must do away with anything that could produce or bear sin into His new creation.

Jesus Christ will act as the justice of the last judgment, as the Bible states “Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,” (John 5:22). All skeptics will be judged by Christ at the “great white throne,” and they will face punishment in accordance with the acts they have done (Romans 2:5-6).

LIFE APPLICATION: As children of God. we need not cower or hang our heads during the judgment. Nor are we to repent the time for that is past. We will stand before the Lord, clothed in Christ’s righteousness and forgiven of every Single sin. And we will, at last, comprehend how great is the love of our God for us.

CONCLUSION: Jesus Christ will judge every person who has ever lived (Acts 10:42). At the final judgment, the destiny of the wicked and nonbelievers will be in the control of the almighty God who will assess everyone according to their soul’s status.
