BASIC SCRIPTURES: MARK 11:24;

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

HEBREWS 11:1-11

11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

For by it the elders obtained a good report.

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Hebrews 11:1-11 (NIV): “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. By faith, Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith, he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith, Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.”

This passage from the book of Hebrews is often referred to as the “Faith Hall of Fame.” It highlights the stories of various individuals from the Old Testament who demonstrated remarkable faith in God. It begins by defining faith as confidence in what is hoped for and assurance about what is not seen. It cites examples of renowned figures like Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah, emphasizing their unwavering faith and obedience to God’s call, despite not receiving the fulfillment of the promises in their lifetime. Their faith is commended as a model for believers, inspiring them to trust God’s promises and live a life of faithfulness.

These passages emphasize the significance of faith in the life of a believer, particularly in prayer (Mark 11:24) and in one’s relationship with God throughout history (Hebrews 11:1-11). They serve as encouragement for Christians to approach God with unwavering faith, trusting in His promises and believing that He is faithful to fulfill what He has promised.
