BIBLE TEXT: Luke 7:36-50.
[36]And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.
[37]And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
[38]And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
[39]Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
[40]And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
[41]There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
[42]And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
[43]Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
[44]And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
[45]Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
[46]My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
[47]Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
[48]And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
[49]And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
[50]And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
MEMORY VERSE: 1John 4:19: We love Him, because He first love us
LESSON AIM: God wants you respond to His lave for you.
CHILD RELATED TRUTH: You should show to bod that you appreciate His love for you.
INTRODUCTION:
Do you have a friend you truly love?
What binds you with that friend?
Why do you love the friend?
Is it because he’she gives you things e.g. snacks, toys. play games, with you, runs and plays games with you. Assuming the friend refuse to share his things with you, will you still keep the friendship?
Jesus said in John 15:13; greater love hath no man than this than to lay down His ife for His friends. This is really a strong love and that is exactly what Jesus did for you and I, He demands our sincere love.
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS:
A. And one of the Pharisees desired him He would eat with him. And He went into the Pharisee’s house and sat down to meat.
B. Behold, a woman in the city, which was sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house brought an alabaster
box of ointment; (The woman was referred to as a sinner.) Who is asinner? He/she is someone that does wrong or a bad thing that makes God displeased e.g. lying. stealing, fighting. disobeying authority etc. Romans 3:23 says we are all sinners.
C. And stood at His feet behind Him weeping and began to wash His feet with tears and did wipe them, with the hair of her head, and
kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. She realized who Jesus is, that He is the son of God sent down to die for her sin because God loves her John 3:16 and gave Jesus. And Jesus came and died for our sins, He gave His blood for the forgiveness of our sins.
D. She came to show her love for Jesus and to have encounter with Him, so that her sins can be forgiven.
E. When the Pharisee saw it, he spoke within himself that Jesus did not know who she was, if not he would not let her touch him, for she is a sinner. But Jesus told him a parable about forgiveness and how one forgiven should show greater love. Vs. 40-47
CLIMAX: And Jesus said unto her, thy sins are forgiven and people there began to say within themselves who is this that forgives sin also vs. 43-49.
CONCLUSION: And He said unto her, thy faith hath saved thee: go in peace.
CHALLENGE: As a child of God, you must always respond to God’s love by obeying His word. John 15:14 “ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you'”. The woman believed that Jesus is the Saviour and she
came to Him and showed her love and she got a greater blessing of peace.
INVITATION: Reciprocate God’s love that brought salvation by receiving Jesus Christ as your Saviour. John 1:12.
