RCCG LOWER JUNIOR ZEAL FOR 2021/2022 AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL LESSON TEN (10) SUNDAY 7TH OF NOVEMBER, 2021
TOPIC: WAYS GOD BLESSES A MAN (LONG LIFE)
BIBLE TEXT: 2 Kings 20:1-11
[1]In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
[2]Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,
[3]I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
[4]And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
[5]Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
[6]And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
[7]And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
[8]And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?
[9]And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
[10]And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
[11]And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 91:16 “With long life will satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”
LESSON AIM: The children will know that it is only God that can give long life
CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God is the giver of life

When King Hezekiah became sick, the prophet Isaiah told him that he would die. Hezekiah knew that there was still a lot of
work to do in Judah. He wanted to help the country to be better. He wanted to teach the people to love God. He could not do that if he was dead! Hezekiah prayed that the Lord would give him a longer life.
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS: 2 Kings 20:1-11
1. One time King Hezekiah became very sick that he almost died.
2. The prophet Isaiah came to visit Hezekiah and told him, “The Lord says you are going to die. So you should give your last orders
to everyone that you will not get well.”
3. As soon as Isaiah left, Hezekiah began to pray to God. He said, “Lord, please remember that I have always obeyed You and have done what You said was right.
4. Then Hezekiah cried loudly because he did not want to die.
5. The Lord stopped Isaiah before he left the palace, and told him to tell the king that He had heard his prayers and will heal him and
that he will be able to go to the house of the Lord in three days.
GOSPEL CONNECTION: King Hezekiah did not want to die because he felt that he needed more time to lead the people in the ways of the Lord. God is love and wants all to obey His commandment and follow Him. God heard the prayers of the king and healed him because he did what was right in the sight of the Lord. God will hear you when you ask for things (long life, mental abilities, etc) in prayers if you have put your trust in Jesus whom He sent to die for the forgiveness of your sins (1Corinthians 15:3-4)
6. The Lord said for His namesake and also because of David, he will add another fifteen years to his life and also promised defend the city
7. Then, Isaiah had Hezekiah’s servants boil some figs, made a paste and spread on the king’s skin and he got better
8. King Hezekiah wanted a sign from the Lord to be sure that he would go to the temple in three days so Isaiah asked Hezekiah, “Do you see the shadow on the steps?”
9. Hezekiah thought for a moment, “It is easy for a shadow to go forward, so let it go back ten steps as a sign from God that He will
keep His promise.
10. Then Isaiah called to the Lord. God brought the shadow back ten steps and Hezekiah knew that God would make him well
CLIMAX: It happened just as the Lord said, King Hezekiah lived fifteen more years and was a good king.
CONCLUSION: Hezekiah was given the choice of whether the shadow should go back or forward ten degrees. Hezekiah chose a way that was not possible but happened just as he requested.
CHALLENGE: If you have believed in the Lord Jesus as Lord and Saviour, He can satisfy you with long life too. You need to be obedient to God’s word, Jesus said that there are two great commandments and if you fulfill them, you have fulfilled all the commandments (Matthew 22:36-40). Obey God’s laws and do what is right. The Lord will keep you away from things that will shorten your life (list things that can lead to premature death)
INVITATION: Belief in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved (John 5:24)
