TOPIC: BEWARE OF DOGS
SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,

BIBLE PASSAGE: 2PETER 2:9-22
2 Peter:2.9
[then] the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,
2 Peter:2.10
and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. [They are] presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries,
2 Peter:2.11
whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.

But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption,

[and] will receive the wages of unrighteousness, [as] those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. [They are] spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,

INTRODUCTION
The word ‘beware’ is ‘to be careful of’ or to ‘be mindful of’ a thing, a person or a circumstance. The scripture warn us to beware of dogs, evil workers and of the concision (fleshly circumcision upon which the Judaizers insisted as being necessary for gentile converts). Dogs are naturally domesticated as per or for security purposes. However, dogs are also dangerous animal; they can bite, destroy, and even kill. In the New testament times, dogs were regarded as scavenger (Matthew 15:26-27). In the content of Philippians 3:2 the word ‘dog’ is used figuratively to represent some classes of people. Who are these ‘dogs’ and why should believers beware of ‘dogs’.
TEXT REVIEW: 2PETER 2:9-22
2Peter 2:9-22 mentioned some manifestations of the dogs. For instance in
2Peter 2:12b indicated that the dogs speak evil of the things they do not understand.

DESCRIPTION OF ‘DOGS’
Question:
Teacher should allow student to use the following scripture to answer the question, “Who are the dogs?”
Answer:
i. Philippians 3:1-3. They are evil workers;
ii. (2Corinthians 11:13). They are deceitful people
iii. (2Corinthians 4:1-2). The unfaithful
iv. (Acts 13:8-11). The subverters of faith and the gospel.
v. Isaiah 56:10-11. greedy, lazy, selfish, self-centered leaders.
vi. (Galatians 5:15). Violent people
Question:
How did Jesus Christ describe the dogs, according to the following scriptures?
Teachers should allow some other students to answer the question according to the scripture below:
(Matthew 7:6). The ungrateful, careless and carefree people.
(2Peter 2:22). The unrepentant people and people that revert to their old sinful life
(Hebrews 10:38). The backsliders.
Question:
How did Deuteronomy 23:18 describe the dogs? Teacher should allow some students to respond to the Question.
Answers:
I. The whore, hariot, woman who engages in sexual intercourse for money. Deut. 23:18a.
II. The abominable people/thing. Deut. 23:18a i.e disgusting, detestable , evil things, such things that God forbids. E.g homosexuality lesbianism, etc. 1Corinthians 6:9.

How should a believer treat or relate with the dogs?

iii. They confront and resist truth. 2Tim 3:8
iv. They weaken and pollute minds of believers 2Timothy 3:7-8
v. They cause weak believers to stumble. 1Corinthians 8:9-12
vi. They defile the church with false doctrines 2Timothy 3:7-8; 3
vii. They are devil incarnate. 2Corinthians 11:13-14
Question:
What should believers do to avoid the snares of the dogs?
Answer:
i. Do not participate or take pleasures in the act of the dogs. Romans 1:32
ii. Study the word of God regularly to prevent false doctrines. (1Timothy 4:13; Ephesians 4:14);
iii. Be watchful and prayerful (1Peter 5:8; Matthew 26:41);
iv. Be holy. (Romans 12:1-2)
v. Be spirit filled. (Galatians 5:16).

Anyone who goes back to his sins after forsaking them is regarded as dogs, be watchful!.
