INTRODUCING THE LESSON

ASSEMBLIES OF GOD CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSONS UNIT 3 SEPTEMBER 25 2022

Today, what are some popular views of who Jesus is?
From the earliest days of His earthly ministry, people questioned the identity of Jesus. So identified Him as one of many prophets. However, others understood who He truly is: “The Christ, the Son of the living God”(Matthew 16:16, NIV).
From the topic: “the incarnate son means that God became flesh and assumed a human nature and became a man in the form of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the second person of the Trinity. Christ was truly God and truly man.
In this week’s lesson, we will explore what John, the son of Zebedee and one of Jesus’ first disciples, had to say about Jesus in John 1:1-18. We will find a Jesus who is different from many modern assessments of Him. We will encounter an exalted picture of Christ, one that shows He is worthy of our worship. May God help us to acknowledge the glory of Christ and worship Him as God.

LESSON NUGGETS

ASSEMBLIES OF GOD CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSONS UNIT 3 SEPTEMBER 25 2022

✅️ The opening words, “In the beginning,” draw us back to the very first words of the Bible(Genesis 1:1). The primary subject of John chapter one is the Word.
Who is the “Word?” It is none other than Jesus Christ. Only Jesus fits all the declarations about the Word.
Psalm 33:6, 9 – By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host… For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. Jesus Christ is the Word, through whom God reveals Himself to man. All things came into being by Him. The Word is not a created being, but the Creator Himself. In Him all things were made both visible and invisible.
✅️ True life, the fullness of life, spiritual life is only found in Jesus Christ. As He Himself said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me.” We have true light through His life. So light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. Is this light shining in and through your life?
When you believe in Jesus not only do you leave the darkness and enter the light; you actually join the family of the light–you become children of the light. Paul said, “Once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8). We will live each day to shine forth as light in a darkened world because His Word is active in us. Is He living inside of you?
✅️ John the Baptist was identified as a man sent from God. The Gospel writer noted that John was “not the light”. He was a great mam, the forerunner of the Messiah, but he was not to be confused with the Lord Jesus Christ. John the Baptist was given a God-called mission to testify about Jesus to others. If you are a Christian, you have been called to witness to others about Jesus’ life-giving mission as well. As a saved person, we are to save others through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Take time this week to pray for opportunities to share with others what Christ has done.
✅️ The Creation failed to acknowledge its creator. “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.” The Jews Failed to Receive Their Promised Messiah. “He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.”
“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.”
The acceptance is by faith in Christ. Those who welcome the light are welcomed by God. We that were not part of God’s covenant family, but through Christ we are now part of the family of God. Have you accepted Him in your life?
✅️ We have a spiritual birth in Christ. Our new birth is not based on ethnic or family heritage. Not on the accomplishments or merit or even the will of man. It is only on the sovereign grace of God. We can only choose Him because He has first chosen us in His sovereign grace. The new birth depends ultimately on God. Then we respond in repentance and faith and continue to grow in our faith and our relationship with Him. Our new birth is the actual primary purpose of His incarnation–He became a man to save humanity.
✅️ The reality of the incarnation–the Son of God became a man so that men could become the sons of God. By so doing, He tabernacled, pitched His tent among us. God showers His grace on us through Jesus Christ His Son. All of us are sinners. Not one of us can claim that we have lived perfect lives. As sinners we are deserving of punishment. As sinners we face an eternity in Hell separated from God. Yet God loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for us. Christ died for us so that we could receive God’s grace and have eternal life with Him instead of facing eternal torment in Hell. God saves us by His grace. We do nothing to merit salvation yet He loves us so much that He saves us by His grace when we receive Jesus and believe on His name.
