SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
*1.* O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,

To rejoice at Thy birth.

Thy friend friendship suits me well,
Both young and will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.
*3.* O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.
*4.* O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee
*5.* O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.
*6.* O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

INTRODUCTION

Many followers of Jesus Christ look for the assurance of salvation in the wrong places. We tend to seek assurance of salvation in the things God is doing in our lives, in our spiritual growth, in the good works and obedience to God’s word that is evident in our Christian walk. While these things can be evidence of salvation, they are not what we should base the assurance of our salvation on. Thus, this lesson centres on the confidence we have that we are saved.
LESSON OUTLINES
1. WHAT IS SALVATION?
2. ASSURANCE OF SALVATION
WHAT IS SALVATION?
Salvation is deliverance from danger of suffering. To save is to deliver or protect. Sometimes, the Bible uses the word “saved” or “salvation” to refer to temporal, physical deliverance, such as Paul’s deliverance from prison (Philippians 1:19). The word “salvation” concerns an eternal, spiritual deliverance. Jesus equated being saved with entering the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24-25). Salvation means to be saved from “wrath”, that is, to be extempted from God’s judgement of sin (Romans 5:9; 1Thessalonians 5:9) which is death- eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23). Salvation therefore, implies ‘the removal of one’s sin’.
Only God can remove sin and deliver us from it’s penalty (2Timothy 1:9; Titus 3:5). He does this through His son Jesus Christ (John 3:17). Specifically, it was Jesus’ shedding of his blood, his death on the cross and subsequent resurrection that made us to receive our salvation (Romans 5:10 Ephesians 1:7). Scripture is clear that salvation is the gracious, underserved gift of God Ephesians 2:5,8-9) and is only available through faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). Salvation is the deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin which is granted to those who believe and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, having repented of their sins (John 1:12).
ASSURANCE OF SALVATION
When a sinner hears the Gospel of salvation, repents and forsake his sins, he goes on to confess his sins to Jesus Christ and ask for salvation, he will be saved (Romans 10:9-15; Acts 2:21). We should not live our Christian lives wondering and worrying each day whether or not we are truly saved. A sinner who have just prayed a prayer of salvation must believe what is written in Romans 10:9-10 “That is thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”.
Believers should trust that they are saved based on the promise God has declared, not because of their subjective experiences or religious activities (Ephesians 2:8-9). The assurance of our salvation, therefore, comes by faith in God’s word (Romans 5:1). The Holy Spirit also bears (inner) witness with our spirit (Romans 8:16).

CONCLUSION

Do not doubt your salvation. Build your assurance in Christ through intimacy with the word of God.
QUESTION
